Our Year 2 Educator Prep students had a wonderful day at William Carey University's Ed Prep Day learning more about the university’s College of Education program and exploring creative ways to make learning meaningful and engaging for students! 🍎✏️

Students participated in breakout sessions led by university professors who shared a variety of instructional strategies, including:

⚽ Kinesthetic Learning — incorporating balls and movement into lessons to get students actively involved in learning.

🎨🎶 Art & Music Integration — discovering creative ways to incorporate art and music into classroom instruction.

📚🎃 Literacy Strategies — exploring fall- and Halloween-themed books and learning how to use them to teach a variety of skills through engaging activities and instructional techniques.

With five schools invited to participate, it was a wonderful opportunity for our future teachers to learn, collaborate, share ideas, and discover new ways to bring lessons to life in the classroom!

We are thankful to William Carey University and the College of Education professors for investing in our students and helping prepare the next generation of educators. ❤️

Our Year 2 Educator Prep students have been putting their creativity and future-teacher skills to work with their "Future Classroom Diorama Project!" 🎨📚

Each student designed and created a 3-D model of their future classroom based on the grade level and subject area they hope to teach. Students had to think like teachers as they planned learning spaces, instructional areas, classroom resources, organization, and ways to create an inclusive environment where every student feels welcome and supported. They also incorporated their personal teaching philosophies, classroom expectations, and special features that reflect their vision for an engaging and successful learning environment. Students then completed a written reflection explaining their design choices and how their classrooms would support student learning and engagement.

This hands-on project challenged our future educators to think beyond the physical classroom and consider how classroom design can impact learning, relationships, and student success. We are so proud of the thought, creativity, and effort they put into bringing their future classrooms to life!

Mrs. Jessica Robinson’s students have been learning about essential employability skills, including honesty, communication, accountability, organization, integrity, and trustworthiness. Students created posters highlighting these important traits and the role they play in the workplace.

These soft skills are valuable in every career and help students build strong habits that will benefit them both today and throughout their future!

Students in Mrs. Ashley Middleton's Health Science/Sports Medicine programs recently had the opportunity to attend Discovery Day at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson!

This exciting event introduced students to the wide range of careers available in healthcare and medical research, along with the educational pathways needed to pursue them. Through interactive, rotation-based experiences, students explored various academic programs, departments, and specialized areas of the medical field.

Experiences like these help our students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities while discovering new possibilities for their futures.

Smith County Career Center Named 2026 Career and Technical Center of the Year!

The Smith County Career Center has been selected as the 2026 Career and Technical Center of the Year by Build Mississippi and the Associated Builders and Contractors of Mississippi (ABC Mississippi).

The prestigious statewide award recognizes the center's outstanding commitment to career and technical education and its continued dedication to preparing students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the workforce.

The selection was made upon the recommendation of the Build Mississippi and ABC Mississippi Workforce Development Committee, recognizing the center's years of hard work and dedication to vocational education.

“We are honored that the Smith County Career Center has been selected as the 2026 Build Mississippi/Associated Builders & Contractors of Mississippi Career and Technical Center of the Year,” said Smith County School District Superintendent John King. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our instructors and staff, the hard work of our students, and the support of our community and industry partners.”

“Our CTE team is helping students build the skills and confidence to succeed in high-demand careers, and we are proud to see their work recognized across Mississippi,” King added.

The Smith County Career Center will be formally recognized and presented with the award during the Merit Awards Banquet on Friday, November 13, 2026, at the Refuge Hotel and Conference Center in Flowood, Mississippi.

The statewide recognition highlights the continued efforts of the center's instructors, staff, and students, as well as the Smith County School District's commitment to providing quality career and technical education.

Our Year I Construction students are building a strong foundation in power tool safety and proper equipment operation. After completing their testing on power tools, Instructor Jeff Harrison demonstrated the proper procedures for safely operating the bandsaw, upright sander, and oscillating sander, along with the necessary safety precautions.

Students then put their knowledge into practice by shaping pieces of wood and using the sanders to smooth and finish the edges.

These hands-on skills provide a great foundation for the larger projects and advanced skills they’ll take on in the future!
