Our State of Local report is making news. πŸ“° Axios Richmond featured findings from this year's survey of 170 local business owners across the region.

A few of the numbers they pulled: companies with fewer than 20 workers make up 83% of all businesses in Greater Richmond, and 68% still reported being profitable, crediting efficiency and discipline over revenue growth.

🚨 Virginia's employment laws are changing July 1. Are you ready?

The 2026 General Assembly produced a sweeping package of new employment laws, and most provisions take effect this summer. These changes will reshape hiring practices, leave policies, workplace safety obligations, and litigation exposure for businesses across the Commonwealth.

Join us Wednesday, June 3 from 9–11:00 am for a free webinar. Through our VRF partnership, InUnison members get exclusive access to a briefing with Kevin Holden and Winston West, labor and employment attorneys at Jackson Lewis P.C.
Topics include pay transparency, heat illness prevention, noncompete restrictions, paid sick leave, paid family and medical leave, expanded wage liability, and more. Live Q&A included.

If you hire, manage, or set policy, this one's for you. Register now at the link below.

Richmond was just named America's Capital of by OnDeck, with 68,263 posts per 100,000 residents. That's more than any other city in the country.

That ranking doesn't happen without two things: independent businesses worth celebrating, and a community that shows up to celebrate them.

At InUnison, we work to keep that momentum going. Between Find Local RVA , our online local business directory, and our Certified Local RVA program, we help shoppers find independent businesses and recognize who's locally owned.

Keep posting. Keep tagging. Keep shopping and supporting your fellow local businesses. It's working.

Some of the best things about InUnison membership can't be found in a benefits listing.

It's the introduction at Happier Hour that turns into a new vendor relationship. It's the Learning Lab takeaway you use the next morning. It's knowing a hundred other Richmond business owners have your back when things get hard or you have a question.

We support members with programs, tools, and advocacy. But the real magic is the people you meet along the way. Come build with us.

We've always known Richmond is something special, thanks in no small part to our phenomenal local business community. It seems The New York Times agrees.

Their new guide, "36 Hours in Richmond, Va," features nine InUnison members, and we couldn't be prouder. Congratulations to American Civil War Museum, CobbleStore Vintage, Clover, Helen's, Idle Hands, Linden Row Inn, Sub Rosa, Jefferson Hotel Richmond, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. You're a big part of what makes this city worth writing home about.
