🚨 TRAFFIC ADVISORY – PSE&G GAS SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

River Vale Police Department would like to make residents and motorists aware of upcoming PSE&G gas system improvement work along Old Hook Road near the borders of Closter and Harrington Park.

Multiple lane closures are expected along Old Hook Road between Bogert Mill Road and Schraalenburgh Road, affecting both eastbound and westbound traffic.

Work is expected to begin the week of October 1, 2026, and continue intermittently through mid-November 2026. Work hours will vary Monday through Friday, with the possibility of weekend work.

Motorists should expect temporary lane closures, traffic pattern changes, construction equipment, and potential delays. Please allow additional travel time and follow all posted detours and traffic-control measures.

River Vale Police Department will have an officer stationed at the intersection of Brookside Avenue and Rivervale Road to assist with traffic flow and help alleviate any congestion that may occur as a result of the detours.

Schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY – OVERNIGHT ROAD WORK

The River Vale Police Department is advising motorists and residents that Sparwick Construction will be replacing drainage systems at the intersection of Rivervale Road and Westwood Avenue (4 Corners).

Dates: Monday, September 21 – Friday, September 25, 2026
Work Hours: 8:30 PM – 6:30 AM

During these overnight construction hours, road closures and detours will be in effect in the area. Motorists should expect traffic delays and plan accordingly.

Motorists are urged to follow all posted detours and obey the directions of police officers and personnel on scene. Please use caution when traveling through the area and allow additional time to reach your destination.

The River Vale Police Department appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation while this necessary drainage work is completed.

Last night, during the town council meeting, P.O. Toback and P.O. Scalisi were officially sworn in as members of the River Vale Police Department.

Both officers have successfully completed the department’s Field Training Program and have demonstrated the dedication, professionalism, and commitment necessary to serve the residents of River Vale.

We are proud to welcome P.O. Toback and P.O. Scalisi to the department and look forward to all they will accomplish throughout their careers.

Please join us in congratulating both officers and wishing them continued success as they begin this next chapter of their careers!

Reminder: (Tomorrow 08/17) Road Closure on Westwood Avenue (Eastbound Lane)

ROAD CLOSURE – FRIDAY, AUGUST 14 & MONDAY, AUGUST 17

Please be advised that Tilcon will be conducting milling and paving operations in Old Tappan at the town border line on Friday, August 14, and Monday, August 17, from approximately 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM each day.

🚨 HARD CLOSURE:
Eastbound Westwood Avenue at Clauss Lane. There will be no through traffic at this location.

⚠️ SOFT CLOSURE:
Eastbound Westwood Avenue from Rivervale Road to Blauvelt Street. Local residents will be permitted access to their homes.

❗ IMPORTANT: There will be NO ACCESS INTO OLD TAPPAN FROM WESTWOOD AVENUE during the road closures.

Motorists are asked to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and allow additional travel time. Please follow posted detours and directions from police officers and roadway personnel.
