September is National Preparedness Month. Walker County and GEMA/HS are encouraging Georgians to use the month as an opportunity to make preparedness a priority at home, at work and in their communities.
This year’s National Preparedness Month’s theme is “Americans Stand Ready” and will focus on several distinct ideas that capture how Americans take pride in their ability to protect themselves and their families and work together to recover from disasters.

Flash Flood Warning FFWFFC The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

Flash Flood Warning for Catoosa County in northwestern Georgia Northeastern Dade County in northwestern Georgia North Central Walker County in northwestern Georgia

Until 430 AM EDT.

At 1235 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE Radar indicated. IMPACT Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Ringgold, Fort Oglethorpe, Rossville, Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga Valley, Boynton, Indian Springs, Graysville, Lakeview, Fairview, Chattanooga Valley and Wildwood.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Catoosa County in northwestern Georgia North central Walker County in northwestern Georgia Northeastern Dade County in northwestern Georgia

Until midnight EDT.

At 1123 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Lookout Mountain, or 9 miles southwest of Chattanooga, and is nearly stationary. HAZARD 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE Radar indicated. IMPACT Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Fort Oglethorpe, Rossville, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga Valley, Lakeview, Blue Spring, Wildwood, Fairview, Boynton, Chattanooga Valley, Ho**er, East Ridge, and Indian Springs.

At 549 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from McDonald to Lookout Mountain, moving southeast at 30 mph. HAZARD 60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE Radar indicated. IMPACT Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

At 402 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE Radar indicated. IMPACT Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Fort Oglethorpe, Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga Valley, Fairview and Lakeview.

Locations impacted include Naomi, Mill Creek, Suttles Mill, and Villanow.
