🦷 45 Teeth Left Behind in San Antonio 🦷

That might sound surprising, but it tells an important story about the dental care needs facing rural communities like ours.
During the recent Texas Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic in San Antonio, 40 individuals from Edwards County and Rocksprings received treatment, resulting in 45 teeth being extracted and left behind in San Antonio.

Think about that for a moment.
45 teeth removed because of pain, infection, or severe dental issues that had gone untreated, not because people didn't care about their health, but because access to affordable dental care can be difficult for many families in rural, remote Texas.

What's even more remarkable is that those 45 extractions don't tell the whole story. For several patients, dental treatment had to be completed in stages, meaning additional procedures and extractions will still be needed in the future.

This is why programs like Texas Mission of Mercy matter so much.

Behind every extraction is a person who can now sleep without pain, eat more comfortably, return to work, care for their family, and smile with greater confidence.

Behind every patient served is a story of someone who simply needed access to care.

The numbers are eye-opening, but they also remind us of something hopeful: when communities, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and sponsors come together, lives can be changed.

Thank you to Texas Mission of Mercy and every volunteer who helped address a critical need in our community. The impact of your service extends far beyond a single weekend.

💜Because sometimes the most powerful measure of success isn't what came home with us, it's what we were finally able to leave behind.

💜 40 Smiles Restored, Countless Hearts Touched 💜

Saturday, May 30, 40 members of the Rocksprings community received dental care through the Texas Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic in San Antonio, and what an incredible experience it was!

While the dental procedures themselves changed lives, what stood out just as much was the spirit of fellowship, compassion, and service that filled the gymnasium where care was provided. Everywhere you looked, volunteers, dental professionals, patients, and community members were sharing smiles, encouragement, and genuine kindness. They talked and listened to the stories of the patients in their care.

Texas Mission of Mercy reminds us that fellowship is more than a word, it is the heart of service. The connections formed while helping others create something truly special. Every filling, cleaning, extraction, and restored smile represented a community of experts in their field coming together to serve and care for one another.

We are deeply grateful to the volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants, medical professionals, support staff, dental students, and countless volunteers who gave their time, talents, and energy to make this clinic possible. Your compassion relieved pain, restored confidence, and brought hope to our community!

From the first welcome encouraging patience and joy to the final smile, it was clear that this work is about much more than dental care. It is about dignity, human connection, and giving back.

A special thank you also goes to the many generous sponsors like Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. whose support helped make this life-changing event possible. We encourage everyone to take a moment to view the sponsor banners included in our photo album and help us recognize the organizations and partners who invested in the health and well-being of Texans in our community and beyond.

Thank you, Texas Mission of Mercy, for demonstrating what can happen when people come together to serve. The smiles restored in San Antonio will be remembered for years to come, but the kindness and fellowship shared throughout the experience may be the greatest gift of all.

Thank you Rocksprings ISD and Juan Barrera for making safe transportation happen for our community members! This could not have happened without you!
