Remembering Dolly

Today, the Ste. Genevieve County Library joins communities across the country in mourning the loss of a true champion of children, books, and the power of imagination.

Dolly Parton was so much more than a legendary musician. Through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering belief in the importance of reading, she helped put millions of books into the hands of children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Her belief was simple but powerful: every child deserves the opportunity to grow up with books and the chance to discover the joy of reading.

For us as a library, that legacy means something special. We know every day just how much a book can change a child's world. Dolly understood that, and she dedicated a remarkable part of her life to making sure children had books of their own.

Dolly once said, “If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.” She spent her life giving away smiles, songs, hope—and books.

She will be deeply missed, but the stories she helped place in the hands of millions of children will continue for generations.

A long awaited and exciting announcement, our new SGCLIB website is now live! This has been in the works for a while now, we're ecstatic to finally see it come to fruition! With School quickly approaching now is the time to sign up for our Once Upon a Box program! :) This program is specifically designed for daycares, preschools & classrooms in need of books!
How it works:
1. Sign up using the form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdQ5E3L9F7ifnriJ7wmeWb6PNn-5extZB1BTyl43IYHRducQQ/viewform?usp=header
2. Starting in September on the 2nd Tuesday of every month a library representative will come to your location and drop off a box of 40 picture books for you to use throughout the month.
3. Use the books in the classroom however you need!
4. A library rep will come by the next month and swap out your box for another 40 books!

There is a limited amount of book boxes so sign up early to ensure your spot! If you participated last year, you do not need to worry about signing up again.

Last year we had 4 participants in this wonderful program and we are looking forward to resuming with them in September! This service is open to any of the locations above in Ste. Genevieve County.
