Experience 18th-century history
Plan your visit ↓ Genevieve's downtown area National Historic Landmark District offers visitors a rare glimpse into a French Colonial past. Along with historic homes we have great restaurants, quaint shops, trails, museums, water park, wineries, tiger sanctuary and more. Narrow streets and fenced gardens surround some of the most

significant 18th Century architecture in America. Stay in our many charming short term rentals throughout the county.

Three of only five known surviving poteaux-en-terre houses in North America still stand in Sainte Geneviève, Missouri.

This French colonial building method used vertical wooden posts set directly into the earth, a form of construction once common in the Mississippi River Valley and now extraordinarily rare. Sainte Geneviève’s surviving examples are the Bauvais-Amoureux House, Bequette-Ribault House and Vital St. Gemme Beauvais House.

Together, they are part of what gives Sainte Geneviève the greatest concentration of surviving French colonial vertical-log architecture in North America.
