🎥⚾️ Our SGHS broadcasting students recently got a behind-the-scenes look at live sports production during a visit to Southeast Missouri State University!

Students toured SEMO’s broadcasting facilities and observed the setup for an ESPN2 softball broadcast. Students explored the control room, learned about live audio production and watched camera operators work from multiple locations around the field during the game.

The group also had the opportunity to connect with former Ste. Genevieve graduate Collin Abt and learn more about opportunities in broadcasting and media production.

Experiences like this help students see how classroom skills connect to real-world careers while giving them new ideas to bring back to SGHS. Great job, Dragons! 🎬🐲

SGHS recently received a Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) roadway safety grant to support the Class of 2026 Project Graduation event and promote safe decision-making among graduating seniors.

As part of the grant requirements, SGHS School Resource Officers Christy Clark and Nick Cusanelli spoke with seniors prior to graduation about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. Students also participated in a hands-on safety activity using impairment simulation goggles designed to demonstrate the effects of alcohol and ma*****na on coordination and judgment.

The $200 grant provided through MoDOT helped support the Class of 2026 Project Graduation event, a supervised overnight celebration designed to provide graduates with a safe environment following commencement activities.

MoDOT’s regional roadway safety grants are commonly awarded to high schools across Missouri to help fund Project Prom and Project Graduation events. To qualify, schools must host supervised, substance-free events and include educational programming focused on topics such as impaired and distracted driving, seat belt use and safe driving habits.

SGHS appreciates the continued partnership with MoDOT and local roadway safety organizations in helping promote student safety both during graduation season and throughout the year! 🐲

🥁☀️ Bloomsdale Elementary wrapped up the school year with an energetic performance from the Southeast Missouri State University Steel Drum Band!

Directed by Dr. Shane Mizicko, the SEMO Steel Drum Band performed a variety of Caribbean, jazz, funk and popular music that had students clapping, dancing and moving along to the beat throughout the assembly. 🎶

During the performance, Dr. Mizicko also taught students about how steel drums are made and explained how different drum sizes create different musical notes and sounds.

The event was especially exciting for our BLE community because SG R-II and Bloomsdale Elementary alum Jacob Kirchner — son of BLE teacher Jennifer Kirchner — performed with the band! Students proudly held up handmade posters cheering him on during the assembly. 🐲

What a fun and memorable way to celebrate the end of the school year and kick off summer break!

🇫🇷🎨 SGMS and SGHS French students recently took part in educational field trips that connected classroom learning with history, art and culture!

This Spring, both the SGMS and SGHS French I classes traveled to the St. Louis Art Museum for a guided tour featuring French-related artwork and furnishings. Students explored French history and culture through a variety of exhibits and collections.

French II students traveled to St. Louis to learn more about France’s role during the Holocaust. Students visited the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum before enjoying lunch at La Bonne Bouchee in Creve Coeur.

These experiences provided students with meaningful opportunities to deepen their understanding of French culture, history and language through hands-on learning.

🎉💃 What a fun way to wrap up the school year! ☀️🐲

During the final week of school, the Ste. Genevieve Elementary Dancing Dragons dance team hosted an end-of-year celebration assembly for the entire school at the Performing Arts Center. The event featured performances by the Dancing Dragons and student tap dancers, summertime music and interactive activities that brought students and staff together for an exciting afternoon of celebration!

Students and staff enjoyed a variety of performances and activities throughout the assembly, including a choreographed dance to the school song, a teacher musical chairs competition and performances by the SGHS band and choir. The event concluded with a school-wide dance party that had the entire crowd on its feet! 🕺🎶

Thank you to everyone who supported the Dancing Dragons throughout the year. We hope all of our students, staff and families have a safe, relaxing and happy summer break! ☀️
