Our goal is to help children and their caregivers understand the depth of their grief, stabilize and preserve family relationships, and develop healthy coping skills after the death of a loved one.

We would love for you to join us on October 17th from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM for a special Kerr County Love Project community tile-making event. The Kerr County Love Project is a large-scale community mosaic created in response to the July 2025 floods. Through free, hands-on art workshops, community members of all ages are invited to make ceramic
tiles for this mosaic that will celebrate the beauty, history, resilience and spirit of Kerr County.

The event will be held at our San Antonio office located at 205 W. Olmos Drive. Enjoy taquitos, connect with others and offer your support to the community through this collective art project. Grief doesn’t look the same for every child — and neither should the support they receive. 💛

Veronica Nunez and NCF Board Members recently visited The Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas (CBC) to learn more about how they help children, young adults, and families navigate the loss of a loved one — at no cost to families.

From peer support groups and individual counseling to grief camps and school-based services, CBC creates spaces where children can process loss in ways that feel natural to them. Through play, art, music, sand therapy, drama, and other creative approaches, children are given the opportunity to express emotions that may be difficult to put into words.

CBC also brings support directly into schools across six districts, helping remove transportation and access barriers for children and families who may not be able to reach the center.

We’re grateful to Kristina Hernandez, CEO; Ann-Marie Camosy Murray, Chief Development Officer; Adriana McKinnon, Chief Program Officer; and Marianne Dowdy, Vice Chair and Board Member, for welcoming Veronica and our NCF Board Members and sharing such an insightful look at CBC’s work. The Big Give is here! This year, we're highlighting our school-based program.

When dealing with the weight of grief, students often face social, academic and behavioral challenges in school. Our school-based counseling team operates across South Texas in San Antonio, Uvalde and the Hill Country to address these needs. We serve students directly in-school to remove transportation and scheduling barriers faced by families in need of trauma-informed grief counseling.

As summer comes to a close and kids are back in school, we reflect on what a meaningful season we had. Our families came together to celebrate the memory of their loved ones at our grief camps this summer. They bonded over shared experiences of loss and supported each other when those emotions grew heavy. We are always honored to walk alongside our families on their journeys. Every child and family who comes to us is carrying something heavy. Our work is to help carry those heavy emotions by creating a space where care is mindful and centered on healing. Healing is, and always will be, our highest priority.

That's why we're proud to share that the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas has received its Level 1 Trauma-Informed Certification from the Ecumenical Center, the certifying entity for the Trauma-Informed San Antonio Project.

To receive this level of certification, an organization must meet requirements across five key domains: Safety, Transparency & Trustworthiness, Respect & Empowerment, Collaboration & Policy, and Skill Building & Emotional Intelligence.

For the families who walk through our doors, this certification is a promise. It means a trauma-informed approach shapes every part of our mission, and that we will keep meeting the diverse and changing needs of our community with hope and healing.

Thank you to everyone who supported this effort including our staff, volunteers, board members, and the donors who make this work possible. Together, we are ensuring that thousands of children across South Texas will have access to no-cost grief support when they need it most. No child should have to walk the painful journey of grief alone.
