This past week and today Southwest TSTA/NEA joined at New Teacher Orientation to introduce ourselves and welcome our new colleagues. We provided lunch for 2 days with prizes and information and also today with more prizes and information. Don’t forget that every vote counts.

Everything we do inside the classroom depends on who we elect outside of it. From classroom funding to teacher pay and retirement, Texas public education is on the ballot this November. We have fewer than 100 days to organize, mobilize and ensure every educator, parent and neighbor heads to the polls to back leaders who respect our profession and support our students.

In Texas, we're all too familiar with how school vouchers are siphoning taxpayer dollars from public schools, but after the budget reconciliation bill, H.R. 1, passed last summer, the first national tax-credit voucher program is now threatening to weaken public education further and divert billions of dollars to private and religious schools.
