History of Graebner Elementary

On January 5th, 1932, Graebner received it official name, Charles Graebner Elementary School #37, and opened its doors to 75 children (doubling this enrollment during the first year) and five teachers. Charles Graebner was a prominent San Antonio businessman of an old pioneer family, who had shown a lively interest in education and donated land for educational purpo

ses to SAISD. In September of 1945, Graebner came of age and received it's first full time principal to the enrollment of 500+ children. Since 1945 to present date, seven principals have opened Graebner's doors to the children of the community. In 1982, Graebner's 50th anniversary year, the Griffin was chosen as the school's mascot. Within this time frame, Graebner Elementary has had many face-lifts. The latest bond enabled Graebner to receive a new wing, housing 16 classrooms and the school library. In addition, the cafeteria was expanded and a new gym built. A new Pre-Kinder wing was built to house 2 units for Pre-K 3 and 2 units of Pre-K 4. Graebner was a KEY Initiative School from 1997-2001. Dual Language is currently the standard model here at Graebner. Currently Graebner Elementary is under the direction of Mrs. Veronica Rodriguez and Mr. Ismael De Leon, assistant principals. Currently our enrollment for the 2021-22 school year is 625. Graebner is the largest elementary school in SAISD and larger than many middle schools in SAISD. Our school also prides itself on our daily attendance. Go Griffins!! Graebner Elementary belongs to the Burbank Cluster. Welcome to the home of the Mighty Griffins, the legendary creature of Greek mythology. At Graebner Elementary, our primary goal is to create an educational environment that teaches students to be personally responsible for their academic and behavioral successes in a school that emphasizes safety and security. This is accomplished by teachers, staff, and parents working together as a team to instill self-worth, self respect, and confidence in our students with the belief that hard work and good habits at home will produce a successful child. Teachers collaborate frequently to create, review, and implement strategies that move all students to read at grade level or above. We believe that excellent readers will be successful in all other academic areas which in the long term will lead to high school graduates that are ready for higher learning and to be contributing members of our community. At Graebner, we are committed to the Core Values of SAISD:

**Student Centered

**High expectations

**Commitment

**Passion

**Integrity

**Respect

**Teamwork.
