Last week, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office resolved a total of 1,070 cases, with nearly 60 percent resolved through either guilty convictions or deferred adjudications.

On an annual basis, the Office handles roughly 60,000 cases, with the majority of those cases being misdemeanors, with some of the most common low-level offenses, including DWIs, petty thefts, and other less severe crimes.

Each week presents unique challenges, and while the overall number of cases may fluctuate, valuable work continues outside the courtroom. Our dedicated staff invests countless hours in preparing and reviewing cases and advocating for victims. Our primary focus is on resolving cases efficiently and ensuring justice for those affected by crime.

Through these weekly updates, we aim to provide information regarding our efforts and ongoing commitment to serving Bexar County.

As our prosecution teams diligently manage both misdemeanor and felony cases, this past week included several felony sentencings. Sentencings are a crucial part of the judicial process, occurring after a conviction—whether through a plea agreement, a judge's decision, or a jury verdict.

Over half of the cases were successfully prosecuted, with a significant portion resulting in both guilty convictions and deferred adjudications. A guilty conviction signifies a formal judgment of guilt, whereas deferred adjudication allows the defendant to acknowledge their responsibility for the charges and agree to fulfill specific conditions set by a judge, such as attending counseling or completing community service. If they fail to meet these stipulated conditions, they risk being incarcerated and serving the applicable sentence.

While each week represents merely a snapshot of our overall caseload, it illustrates our ongoing effort to ensure accountability and uphold justice.
