That’s a wrap on the 2026 Ocean City Boardwalk Airshow!

Schultz Airshows had an incredible weekend. Yesterday, our team provided aerial coordination for the opening ceremony supporting the 2026 Pennsylvania Derby.

Then, back in Ocean City, we had an amazing Team Fastrax parachute jump last night, followed by a successful day of flying at the 2026 Ocean City Boardwalk Airshow today.

A special thank you to all of the sponsors, performers, organizers, volunteers, and everyone who helped make these events possible. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be part of such an incredible weekend.

Look to the skies at approximately 4:14 PM as the Jersey Jerks Airshow Team make their overhead appearance.

We also had a unique sighting today three bald eagles spotted overhead! 🦅

Today we celebrate the 79th birthday of the United States Air Force!

The Air Force traces its origins to 1 August 1907 as a part of the United States Army Signal Corps and was established by transfer of personnel from the Army Air Forces with the enactment of the National Security Act of 1947. Core missions of the Air Force include air supremacy, global integrated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, rapid global mobility, global strike, and command and control.

As we reflect on the service's 79th birthday, we think about the roles the Air Force played in every major conflict since the Korean War and every major humanitarian effort, including the Berlin Airlift. The men and women that served in the Air Force are among the best of the best, and that also extends to those currently serving today. Aircraft such as the Aardvark, Delta Dart, Extender, Nighthawk, Phantom, Sabre, Starfighter, Starlifter, and Thunderchief are just a few that have left their mark on the history of the United States Air Force that have served admirably; many of which are serving their remaining years telling their stories in Museum all over the world while also turning their roles to today's active fleet.

Schultz Airshows is saddened to learn of the passing of U.S. Navy veteran and good friend to all of our Team, Mark Meredith. A 1979 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Mark went on to have a decorated career as a Grumman A-6 Intruder Bombardier/Navigator and later as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer. After retiring, he continued to serve the Navy for nine years supporting acquisition programs and Pentagon staffs.

Mark was also a flight instructor and an airshow performer; he flew his beautifully restored DeHavilland Super Chipmunk he affectionately named "Chippy" at airshows across the Eastern United States. Schultz Airshows had the pleasure working with and alongside Mark at many of our events from New York to Virginia over the past eight years. We watched him progress in his airshow career - bringing a unique and graceful routine with Chippy everywhere he went.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mark's wife Martha, their family, the aerobatic and aviation communities, and everyone who knew Mark.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the heroes who answered the call, and recognize the courage and sacrifice displayed that day and in the years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the strength of a nation united and the enduring spirit of those who stood together in the face of tragedy.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

As we roll into September, Schultz Airshows returns to New Jersey and Virginia for two great events. We'll also be adding another new location to our event list!

On Saturday 19 September, we will provide aerial coordination of the Opening Ceremonies for the Pennsylvania Derby, which takes place at Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

Our team will travel to Ocean City, New Jersey for their Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow on Sunday 20 September. It's a great event taking place during the "local summer" and many of the shops and restaurants on the Boardwalk will still be open during the airshow. In addition, the City also has two other aviation events on 19 September: the annual Airport Festival at the Ocean City Municipal Airport and a pyrotechnic parachute jump onto the beach on Saturday night featuring Team Fastrax. Schultz Airshows is not involved with the Airport Festival; however, our Airboss is coordinating the Saturday night parachute jump onto the beach.

The following Saturday, 26 September, we'll be at the Leesburg Executive Airport for the 2026 Leesburg Airshow. Even though it's a small one-day airshow, this is one of the best opportunities for the crowd to meet the airshow performers, get their autographs, and learn about how they got started flying and how they got to where they are today.

We're providing our Professional Airboss, Announcing, and Ground Operations services to both Ocean City and Leesburg.

Today, 31 August 2026, we recognize the 70th anniversary of the KC-135 Stratotanker's first flight.

The KC-135 evolved from a request from the United States Air Force for a jet-powered aerial refueling aircraft. The USAF had, at the time, operated hundreds of piston-powered Boeing KC-97 Stratofreighters - itself a design based off of a World War II-era bomber. The KC-97 was a fantastic aircraft for the role of aerial refueling, but as the jet age was emerging, the KC-97 was simply too slow to refuel many of the fighters and bombers of the time.

In the 1950s, Boeing commissioned an all-jet powered prototype called the 367-80, commonly referred to as the Dash 80, and it first flew in 1954. A flying boom was added to the aircraft to demonstrate that it could refuel the jet-powered military aircraft of the era and served as a prototype for the KC-135. The Air Force eventually ordered more than 700 KC-135s, and dozens of purpose-built or modified aircraft were based off of the KC-135 platform to perform specialized missions. The KC-135 is one aircraft that was derived from the Dash 80 - the other being the Boeing 707 airliner.

Aerial refueling plays a critical role, allowing receiver aircraft to remain airborne longer and take off carrying a larger payload of cargo, personnel, or weaponry. Even after seventy years, the KC-135 remains in high demand in all theaters, and more than 350 aircraft remain in service with the USAF and are expected to remain in service for many years to come. The KC-46A Pegasus will replace the KC-135, and at least 250 Pegasus aircraft will be delivered over the coming years.

Schultz Airshows has had the distinct pleasure of hosting and working alongside many KC-135 squadrons at our airshows through static displays, flyovers, and demonstrations in our 33+ year history. We look forward to hosting Stratotanker crews in upcoming events.

Today we mark both National Aviation Day and World Photography Day.

National Aviation Day is celebrated every year on August 19. President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the holiday in 1939 to honor the birthday of Orville Wright and celebrate the history, progress, and future of flight.

August 19 also marks World Photography Day. This marks the da in 1839 when the French government bought the patent for the daguerreotype process—the first-ever way to take a permanent photo with a camera—and gave it as a free gift to the world.
