We are honored to welcome Norman Wong as our special guest at our annual gala Oct. 2.

In 1898 the Supreme Court ruled that his great-grandfather, Wong Kim Ark, born in San Francisco to immigrant parents, was a citizen of the United States. That ruling is the reason millions of Americans are citizens today.

Over the past year Norman has become one of the most visible public voices in the national debate over birthright citizenship. In April he held vigil outside the Supreme Court during oral argument in Trump v. Barbara.

We're honored to announce our keynote speaker for this year's gala Power of the People...

Congresswoman Lateefah Simon!

She ran the Young Women's Freedom Center at 19, and spent the 30 years since expanding legal representation for migrants, asylum seekers, and formerly incarcerated people, including as Executive Director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. She'll share perspectives on how we take back the POWER OF THE PEOPLE to tackle injustice and inequality head on.

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi joined us last year. Congresswoman Simon this October. And more special guest announcements to come.

Q1'2026: 197 T visas approved. 199 T visas denied. 71,140 T visa applications pending.

Survivors of human trafficking deserve much, much better.

48 years.

At the current pace, that is how long it would take to clear the current backlog of applications for T visas—an essential form of immigration relief for trafficking survivors.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services just released its data on T visas for the 2nd quarter of this fiscal year:

197 T visas approved.
199 T visas denied.
71,140 T visa applications pending.

USCIS must allocate more resources to process these applications. Trafficking survivors are waiting in limbo, at risk of immigration detention or deportation. Official processing times have surged to 32 months, but, given the backlog, that number is unrealistic.

Survivors deserve better. They deserve protection, safety, and the chance to rebuild their lives.
