In a world changing faster everyday, some things remain irreplaceable: compassion, safety, shelter, and human connection.

At the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco, the unhoused and survivors of domestic violence receive care that is personal and rooted in love.

Your support helps provide a steppingstone for a better future: meals, shelter, safety, personalized care, and HOPE.

Thank you for keeping compassion human!

We recently hosted two meaningful volunteer events that were brought to life by Google team members.

Our first event involved volunteers from the communications team, who spent the afternoon at our Division Circle Navigation Center clearing debris, raking, laying mulch, and helping prepare the space for future gardening projects.

The second event involved the SBS Engage West team, who hosted a hygiene kit assembly at their office. Volunteers were able to create over 400 kits that will support our programs and provide hundreds of guests with essential items that promote cleanliness and dignity.

We are grateful to everyone who showed up, gave their time, and made the week so special.

A ride can be more than transportation. It can be the first step toward safety, stability, healing, and hope.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco is proud to announce a new partnership with Uber that will help expand access to essential services for individuals and families in need.

Uber’s generous commitment will provide critical rides to shelter, medical care, supportive services, and other vital resources.

For people experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, poverty, or crisis, transportation can be a barrier between where they are and the help they need. This partnership helps remove that barrier.

Thank you to Uber for helping create pathways out of homelessness and violence: one ride, one connection, and one act of compassion at a time.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" Excerpt from “The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus (1883)

On the 250th anniversary of our nation’s birth, these powerful words, which are included in the mural on the largest homeless shelter in Northern California (the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco Multi-Service Center South) inspires 24/7 365 service to many of our most vulnerable neighbors.

Best wishes for a safe and joyful Independence Day.

We are incredibly grateful to the amazing volunteers from Heffernan Insurance Brokers who gathered at our MSC-South site to assemble hygiene kits for shelter guests.

Not only did the Heffernan team dedicate their time, but they also generously funded the supplies, making it possible to create over 400 hygiene kits!

Because of their dedication to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco, we are honoring Heffernan Insurance Brokers and Heffernan Foundation with the corporate service award at the 33rd annual Brennan Award Dinner.

Please join us in honoring their service and dedication to neighbors in need:

Dear Friend,

This Father’s Day, many of us will think about home, the people who shaped us, the meals we shared, and the fathers and father figures who gave us strength.

For fathers experiencing homelessness in San Francisco, the day can feel very different. It can be a reminder of stability lost, family strained, and the long road back to safety.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco walks with neighbors in need by providing shelter, meals, case management, housing navigation, and compassionate support. This is about more than meeting immediate needs. It is about helping people reclaim dignity, hope, and a path forward.

As we honor fathers and father figures this weekend, we invite you to remember those in our community who are still searching for a safe place to rest and a way home.

Your support helps make this work possible.

Thank you for standing with neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Gratefully,

Patrick B. Schmalz, Chief Executive Officer and Fr. Andres Emmanuelli, Chief Development Officer

Community collaboration is the key to success.

At St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco, we are proud to partner with UCSF on a monthly eye clinic for the individuals we serve at our Division Circle Navigation Center.

Thanks to the dedication of UCSF medical students and providers, our guests can access free eye exams, free glasses and connections to specialty care.

This partnership reflects what’s possible when compassionate care meets community collaboration. We’re grateful to UCSF and the dedicated students and providers who show up each month and believe in our mission.

Special thanks to Laura López González and team for the time and effort put into covering our collaboration.
