San Ramon Valley Street Smarts Street Smarts San Ramon Valley provides Traffic Safety Educational Programs for students in the Kinde Street Smarts brings education to the equation.

The San Ramon Valley Street Smarts Program is a collaborative partnership between the Town of Danville, City of San Ramon, County of Contra Costa, San Ramon Valley Unified School District, San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs and community partners. The purpose is to supplement, and complement the ongoing efforts involving engineering and enforcement. Street

Smarts works on different levels. The program has been promoted throughout the San Ramon Valley through a brand awareness campaign, community events, school activities and discussions, neighborhood initiatives, corporate sponsorships, banners and more.

On Monday, March 30, 2026, more than 200 parents, students, staff, and elected officials gathered at the Danville Village Theatre to celebrate the creativity of 43 aspiring filmmakers from San Ramon Valley Middle and High Schools at the 21st Annual Street Smarts “Be Reel!” Video Contest Awards Ceremony.

The contest encourages students to collaborate in teams to produce 90-second public service announcement videos centered on a traffic safety theme. This year’s theme, “Safety First!” inspired 30 video submissions from 70 students, with 18 entries selected as finalists.

Newell Arnerich, Mayor of the Danville, California, served as the event’s emcee. Other speakers included elected officials and community representatives in attendance, including:

• Mark Armstrong, Mayor, City of San Ramon
• Tim Haile, Executive Director, Contra Costa Transit Authority (CCTA)
• Jesse vanZee, Vice-President, San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) Board of Education
• Candace Andersen, District 2 Supervisor, Contra Costa County

In addition, the following special guests were in attendance:

• Richard Adler, Council Member, City of San Ramon
• CJ Cammack, Superintendent, SRVUSD
• Shelley Clark, President, SRVUSD Board of Education
• Rachel Hurd, Board Member, SRVUSD Board of Education
• Agency Police Department and staff members

After premiering the top 18 finalist videos, the winning filmmakers were invited on stage and presented with an award certificate and gift card.

Top winners and awards included:

High School 1st Place ($300 Amazon gift card): Alyssa & Gannon from Dougherty Valley High School

High School 2nd Place ($200 Amazon gift card): Riddhiman & Orman from Dougherty Valley High School

High School 3rd Place ($100 Amazon gift card): Mishel from Monte Vista High School

Middle School 1st Place ($300 Amazon gift card): Zi Xuan & Hibba from Windemere Ranch Middle School

Middle School 2nd Place ($200 Amazon gift card): Sylvia, Zoe, & Merritt from Windemere Middle High School

Middle School 3rd Place ($100 Amazon gift card): Scarlett from Pine Valley Middle School

The San Ramon Valley Street Smarts program is excited to announce its annual “Be Reel!” Video Contest! All Middle and High School Students are Invited to Unleash Their Creativity While Promoting Traffic Safety!

This year’s theme is “Safety First!” Students are encouraged to create public service announcement videos that educate the community about important traffic safety issues.
Exciting Prizes Await!

High school and middle school participants, competing in teams of up to 4 team members, can compete for the following prizes:
• 1st Prize: $300 in Amazon Gift Cards
• 2nd Prize: $200 in Amazon Gift Cards
• 3rd Prize: $100 in Amazon Gift Cards

A huge thank you from our Street Smarts team to everyone who joined us for this year’s Street Smarts Community Bike Festival on Saturday, October 25, at Iron Horse Middle School!

Even with occasional rain, the event was a great success, and we were thrilled to welcome about 150 participants, who took part in the bike courses, games, and activities.

The festival featured hourly door prize drawings with exciting giveaways, and the Grand Prize, a $300 Sports Basement Gift Card, was awarded to Cooper. Congratulations to Cooper on winning the top prize!

We loved seeing so many smiles, helmets, and bikes out there!
Stay tuned for details about next year’s Bike Festival! We can’t wait to do it again!

We were thrilled to host Traffic Safety Assemblies at all 22 elementary schools, eight middle schools, and four high schools again this school year, reaching over 22k students, parents, teachers, and staff members in the San Ramon Valley! We look forward to continuing our bike and pedestrian safety education efforts in the upcoming school year.
