We are so excited to get out our BRAND NEW library books ready for our students to read and enjoy for years to come!

One of our goals as a school is to help build up and replace some of our older books in the library to make the students excited about reading.

Our first haul has done just that! First, a new library and now it is filled with brand new stories for the children to read!

We have the full Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, the full Dragon Masters series, Captain Underpants series, Dork Diaries series, Pig the Pug series, Percy Jackson series, I Survived series, and SEVERAL other fiction and nonfiction books for Kindergarten through Fifth grade. We were even able to build up our Preschool library!

Our students are going to LOVE all of the new books! 📚

This post is for anyone who hasn’t witnessed first-hand how impactful the Million Cans contest can be for these kiddos.

Take Gilmore Elementary School in WV for example. Gilmore students received TONS of help from businesses, families, and local supporters, helping fill their bin in just two weeks. RJ Recycling then hauled those cans away to be weighed.

Turns out, they collected 1,232 pounds of aluminum! At 80¢/lb, that’s $985.60! We repeat… in just TWO WEEKS, Gilmore raised nearly $1,000 to be put toward new playground equipment.

Isn’t that incredible?! 🥹 Now imagine what would happen if all 72 schools rallied their communities this way.

A girl from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School - Lafayette, La could experience real science experiments because her school is able to afford proper safety equipment.

A boy from Lewisburg Elementary can go on a field trip to the Adventure Science Center and see what outer space looks like.

A student from Oriole Beach Elementary School in Florida can read more books because the book vending machine is stocked with the stories kids want to read.

The possibilities are endless!

Recycling cans is helping our planet, yes. 🌍 But even more, it's enriching these kids’ lives. 💗

Today we had our OFFICIAL kickoff to our can drive!!

We have already collected over 45,000 cans!! WOW!

We were joined by Constellium today at our school! Students had a great presentation about the different types aluminum, fun facts, and how our recycled cans can be used on ROCKET SHIPS! 🚀.

At the end of the presentation, something unexpected happened.. ConStellium presented Gilmore Elementary with a check that brings us to our goal!! After a little over a year, we have made it!

We are so thankful for them and for our community!! We are still collecting cans for our playground. All cans collected will go toward new playground equipment, new Preschool playground equipment, new benches, swings, and other additions we plan to make to our playground for our community and years of students to come!

Thank you to EVERYONE that has been collecting cans. We are just getting started in this competition… so keep it up! 💚♻️🏴‍☠️

We had a PACKED week at Gilmore Elementary!

Students were busy learning in the classroom.. but they did take a few minutes away for some fun and educational activities!!

1) Our 5th graders were able to visit the Mill Creek Water Festival where they were surrounded by amazing water STEM activities and presentations! It was a wonderful experience for our kids!

2) Our PK-4th graders celebrated Fire Safety Week by having a visit from the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department where students learned about fire safety, how firefighters go in and fight fires, and how a fire truck really works! They had a blast learning!

3) Our 3rd-5th graders entered our annual Volleyball tournament where 5th grade took the prize.. that is until our teachers joined in the fun!!
