The Saratoga County Bicentennial Traveling Exhibit is now on view in Schuylerville for a limited time. Presented by Saratoga 250 and local community partners, the exhibit examines how the 1976 Bicentennial shaped public interpretation of the Battles of Saratoga and how those perspectives inform the upcoming 2026 Semiquincentennial. Visitors will find historic photographs, period memorabilia, and interpretive panels that trace fifty years of commemoration and community engagement.

The exhibit is open Thursday–Sunday, June 6–14, 11 a.m.–4 p.m., at the Champlain Canal Region Gateway Visitors Center, 30 Ferry Street.

Our Bicentennial traveling exhibit is now at the Gateway Visitor Center in Schuylerville. You can visit it there until 6/17. The exhibit showcases Saratoga County's celebration of America's Bicentennial in 1976. It includes a display case filled with Bicentennial memorabilia and an interpretive banner detailing Bicentennial projects and events. We invite you to come explore it.

There is ONE slot left to host the exhibit. Interested town halls, libraries, and community centers can sign up here: https://loom.ly/mEGCUK0

If you have any Bicentennial memories or photos, share them with us in the comments!

The Town of Saratoga continues to play a leading role in interpreting the deeper history of the American Revolution—and public response has been strong.

Saratoga 250’s program Benjamin Franklin Slept Here has proven so popular that it sold out almost immediately, prompting the addition of a second date and a second venue.

In the spring of 1776, Benjamin Franklin passed through this region on his way to Canada. Though the mission failed, it helped shape the diplomatic strategy that followed the Battles of Saratoga.

Programs like this highlight Saratoga’s role not just as a battlefield landscape, but as part of a broader network of movement, decision-making, and consequence.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to attend.

If you’ve ever wondered how this region connects to the larger story of the Revolution—and ultimately the Battles of Saratoga—this program brings it into focus in a powerful way. All free and handicap accessible.

📅 April 15, 7 PM (Schuylerville) registration is required: https://tinyurl.com/5n6thbm3

📅 April 12, 1 PM (Saratoga Spa State Park part of Friends of Grant’s Cottage Annual Meeting)

We are excited to share that the KnoxFest event held in Schuylerville this past December is now part of a new documentary produced by Saratoga 250.

The short film, Henry Knox: Resolve Forged by Revolution, tells the remarkable story of Henry Knox and the daring winter expedition that carried the Noble Train of Artillery from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in 1775–1776—an achievement that helped force the British evacuation of Boston and strengthen the American cause.

As part of the regional 250th commemoration, Saratoga County communities—including Schuylerville—helped bring that story to life. Our KnoxFest celebration at Fort Hardy Park featured living history, bonfires, and community participation honoring Knox’s historic journey through the Hudson River corridor.

We’re proud that this event, and the people who came out to experience it, are included in the documentary.
Take a few minutes to watch the film and see how our community helped commemorate one of the most remarkable logistical feats of the American Revolution.

As the Semiquincentennial approaches, events like KnoxFest remind us that the story of the Revolution is not only about famous figures—it is also about the communities that keep that history alive.

There is something extraordinary about standing in a real place where history bent the world in a new direction. The National Parks Traveler recently highlighted how Revolutionary War sites are preparing for America’s 250th, and Saratoga National Historical Park shines as a reminder that the American Revolution wasn’t just strategy and armies—it was human. It was fear and hope, choices and consequences, families and futures reshaped forever.

“If you pick any list of two or three of the most important battles or events during that eight-year-long war, Saratoga is going to be on that list, for the military importance, as well as for its part in cementing that French alliance that enables the Americans to win the war,” continued Cloer. “We think that it's certainly a place and a story that's worth waiting a year to celebrate.”

The photography by Saratoga NHP Ranger Kristin Vinduska captures that humanity beautifully. The article also features photos of Saratoga 250 Vice Chair Sean Kelleher, the dedicated reenactors of the 10th Massachusetts Regiment.

As we move toward 2027 and the commemoration of Burgoyne’s surrender, this story invites us not only to look back, but to engage, visit, listen, and help carry these stories forward.
