Garfield Super Block construction and development are moving smoothly!

Recently, we have added new infrastructure on the bathrooms, pavers put in, laid foundation for the picnic area, and the parkour bars installed for the parkour space. This project is a community-initiated project that will enhance the Central Area's premier community gathering place with a new restroom building, renovated playground, basketball courts alongside existing tennis courts, SPR's first official parkour space, an accessible 0.34-mile walking loop, a new accessible ramp at the southeast corner, a nature play pocket, a climate-adaptive garden, and updated plantings and site lighting throughout.

Garfield Super Block development is still underway!

With ongoing construction and development happening, some areas will not have public access and there will be designated areas where people can enter. Construction fencing is in place around the playfield with openings to maintain access. Our map marks areas where there is public field access.

This week is Week Without Violence! Join us for a week of activities dedicated to raising awareness of violence prevention, amplifying youth voices, and building safer, more connected communities. We're hosting a variety of events at community centers across Seattle to encourage youth to "Be the Light," inspire positive change, and make a meaningful difference in their communities.

We'll end the week with a final event on Friday, October 23, from 6:30-10:30 PM at Rainier Beach Community Center. The event recognizes youth who are leading by example and doing their part to promote peace, nonviolence, and community care.
