We drive systemic change, promote healing, and advance racial and LGBTQIA+ equity, by offering programs and services to families engaged in foster care, and to adoptees and families, post-adoption. Foster and Kinship Care Services
When kids enter foster care, we help keep them connected to their families by helping parents and caregivers to build a strong partnership that works together to best support child(ren) while in foster or kinship care. We license and prepare foster and kinship families, and provide individualized coaching and support. We are proud to offer our services to everyone, regardless of religious beliefs, gender identity, sexual orientation or expression, marital status, race, ethnicity, age, home ownership, income, or education so that we can better address the needs of children in foster care.

NOT TRUE! If a single parent works or both parents in a couple work, DCYF will cover daycare or before/after school expenses for any foster child – provided they attend a location that accepts the DCYF subsidy.

Foster and kinship caregivers - come build community with us in our free support groups! We have both in-person and virtual options. Groups meet on the last Tuesdays (virtual) and Thursdays (in-person) of the month and feature facilitated conversation about topics important to you and your family. It takes a community of caring people to lift up and wrap around children, teens, and families involved in the foster care system, or at risk of entering it. That’s why we’re so grateful every time a new organization joins us in partnership to help us continue to support families, some of whom are navigating some of life’s toughest times.

Caring for children in foster and/or kinship care can be both rewarding and challenging. At Amara, we know that when caregivers receive the support they need, they can move forward with confidence, resilience, and hope. Connecting with a community of understanding people with lived experience can be a powerful antidote to feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.

Our free support groups meet monthly in person and online to provide a safe, welcoming space for foster and kinship caregivers to connect, learn, and build community. Our next groups meet next week on the 27th and the 29th!

Participants in our in-person groups enjoy a light dinner, free onsite child care, and facilitated conversation around topics that matter to them and their families.
