When seasonal workers show up in May, most dont have the funds to cover a deposit for a bike rental. The solution? An antiquated but Alaskan way of doing things called “the honor system” by which they rent and use the bike all summer and then agree to return it to The SBS in September. You’ll see these (often colorful) bikes behind every restaurant, hotel, and bunkhouse getting the workforce to work on time.

These bikes not only keep our town running smoothly, but also relieve car traffic congestion, use up no parking, & create zero noise pollution!

There’s only a small number of people who don’t/aren’t able to return the bike. Things happen 🤷‍♂️. If you’ve got an SBS bike that was abandoned, shoot us a text (907-224-2448) & we’ll come grab it.
