The Shelton Fire Department conducted familiarization training with the Life Star crew this morning. Following a brief classroom presentation, members from the SFD, EHAC and mutual aid partners form Storm Engine Co.2 proceeded to Veterans Memorial Park to observe the landing of the helicopter and review equipment, landing zone requirements, approaching the aircraft and other safety related considerations. After the members had the opportunity to observe the helicopter, members of the public that gathered were able to enjoy a tour of the aircraft. Thank you to the crew of Life Star (Justin , Aaron, Lorene and presenter Jarad) for a great day of training!

*** Press Release***
Date: August 3, 2026
Time: 9:13pm
Location: 500 Block of River Rd
Nature: Commercial Building Fire

On the above date, time and location, Companies 4 and 1 of the Shelton Fire Department responded to an activated waterflow alarm at a single-story, non-combustible manufacturing facility.

Truck 3 arrived to find nothing visible from the exterior. During a 360-degree size-up, firefighters discovered a light haze and the odor of smoke coming from the basement. Further investigation located a fire inside an industrial pillow dryer.

A working fire assignment was declared, bringing all Shelton Fire Department companies to the scene. The building’s automatic deluge sprinkler system successfully controlled the fire, preventing it from spreading into occupied space prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Crews deployed an attack hose for a quick extinguishment of the remaining smoldering fire. Extensive overhaul operations were conducted to remove burned pillows from the dryer and ensure all remaining hot spots were extinguished. Firefighters also confirmed there was no extension into the overhead conveyor system or exhaust stack.

Truck 3, Engines 2, 42, 52, Rescue 45, Ladder 51, Truck 55, Utilities 4 and 31, Cars 1 (Operations Officer), 4 (Suppression Officer), 3 (Safety Officer) and EHAC operated under the Command of Car 6 (AC Plavcan). The Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene conducting Fire investigation.
