We’re grateful to see diaper insecurity in the national conversation.
This week, Greater DC Diaper Bank’s Executive Director, Liz Schurgin, responded to The Washington Post to make one thing clear: the diaper crisis is real.
Nearly 1 in 2 families with young children struggle to afford enough diapers to keep their baby clean, dry, and healthy. And when families don’t have enough diapers, the ripple effects are serious—missed work, barriers to childcare, financial strain, and health risks for babies.
At Greater DC Diaper Bank, we see this reality every day across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
Last year alone, we supported more than 49,000 babies and distributed nearly 10 million diapers to families in our region.
Diaper insecurity is not hypothetical. It is happening now—and together, we can do something about it.
