Our community has always been able to count on Kaleb and Amber Benson. As dedicated members of the S.A.V.E.S Fire and Rescue. They have spent countless hours serving others, answering calls, and standing beside neighbors during some of their hardest moments. Their commitment to our community has never wavered.

Now, they are facing the unimaginable.

Their beloved one year old son recently suffered a medical emergency that resulted in a drowning incident. As their family focuses on his care, healing, and simply being together, they should not have to carry the additional burden of financial stress.

We’re asking our community to come together for a family that has given so much to others. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial strain of medical expenses, travel, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that come with a tragedy like this.

We are proud to announce one of the first major additions coming to S.A.V.E.S.

It is our pleasure to introduce SR-1 to our fleet. This response vehicle will serve as a dedicated medical response unit and will be equipped with one of our cardiac monitors and a LUCAS Chest Compression System.

SR-1 is designed to improve access to residences with narrow driveways and areas where larger apparatus may have difficulty operating.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our Board of Directors and department officers for their dedication and commitment in making this addition to our fleet a reality.

Most importantly, we want to thank our community. Your continued generosity through donations and your support of our fundraisers make improvements like this possible. Because of you, we are able to continue enhancing the services we provide and remain prepared to serve those who need us most.

We would also like to thank ga***rd signs and graphics for getting the new apparatus lettered for us.

And a thank you to Ardmore Fire & Rescue for selling us this apparatus.

Last night at 7:54 p.m., S.A.V.E.S. Volunteers were dispatched to assist a neighboring department with a commercial structure fire involving an automotive shop. Units arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire showing. The fire was extensive and required the response of multiple departments and resources.

We would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication during this incident. We also want to extend our gratitude to the community members who brought water and Gatorade to the fire crews. Your support was invaluable in helping with the rehabilitation and well-being of our personnel. We are proud to serve a community that is so supportive of its emergency responders.

We would also like to thank the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Somerville Police Department for their support throughout this incident, as well as all of the departments that responded to assist. A special thank you goes to Morgan County Dispatch for their efforts in coordinating and dispatching the resources needed.

Tonight, our S.A.V.E.S. volunteers attended the annual Morgan County Volunteer Fire Association banquet. During the evening, awards were presented, and we are proud to share the following honors:

• S.A.V.E.S. was named Fire Department of the Year
• Ryan Halbrooks was named Chief Officer of the Year
• Elijah Halbrooks was named Rookie Firefighter of the Year

We are incredibly proud of these individuals and of all our members, whose dedication and commitment over the past year have made these achievements possible. It is a true honor to be recognized by the association.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the neighboring departments, EMS personnel, and law enforcement agencies who support us every day—this work would not be possible without your collaboration. Finally, we thank our community for your continued support.

Just in case you were wondering what was going on at St 1 this morning. The Alabama Fire College supplied us with a prop that simulates a liquid propane fire. Props like this are crucial in training. They provide us with as close to real life experiences as possible. Our volunteers strive to be professional and trained on whatever emergencies our community may have. Thank you for your continued support.

Yesterday evening, units were dispatched to two separate incidents requiring a coordinated multi-agency response.

At approximately 6:20 PM, crews responded to a multi-vehicle collision involving entrapment and reported injuries at the intersection of Highway 36 East and Mt. Tabor Road.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 7:20 PM, units were dispatched to a second incident in the 200 block of Bean Road involving a single motorcycle.

Incidents such as these highlight the professionalism, training, and dedication of all responding agencies, as well as the strong working relationships that allow for effective coordination in critical situations.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all departments involved for their assistance and commitment to serving our community.

Today has been another busy day for the S.A.V.E.S. Volunteers, with a total of 9 calls for service.
• 3 Fire Incidents
• 6 EMS Incidents

This brings our total to over 400 calls for service so far in 2026.

We would also like to take a moment to recognize several of our members for their recent achievements. Five members have successfully completed and received their Technical Rescue certifications in Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations. Additionally, we would like to congratulate Battalion Chief Kaleb Benson on completing his Officer I–IV courses.

We are extremely proud of the dedication our members continue to show in advancing their skills and education to better serve our community.

Finally, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to our community for your continued support—especially to everyone who participated in Swamp John’s this past Saturday. Your support makes our mission possible, and we truly appreciate it
