WE’RE HIRING!

The Kirkwood Fire Department is accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedic. We are looking for dedicated professionals committed to serving our community with compassion, integrity, and excellence.

Minimum requirements include:

• At least 21 years old at the time of employment
• Current Missouri Paramedic license or National Registry Paramedic certification by hire date
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Current PALS or Handtevy certification
• Current CPAT certification or the ability to obtain it before the hire date

St. Louis County Fire Academy certification is preferred, but applicants without it will be considered.

All required certifications must be submitted with the application.

📅 Application deadline: October 7, 2026, at 5 p.m.
📝 Written examination: Tentatively October 14, 2026, at 9 a.m.
📍 Testing location will be provided to applicants after their applications are accepted.

Current St. Louis County Fire Academy students may be considered for a later testing time.

After this year’s BackStoppers Guns ’N Hoses Soccer match, Kirkwood Fire gets to enjoy a little time with the hardware. ⚽🚒

We’re proud to be part of an event that brings first responders together while supporting The BackStoppers, an organization that does so much for the families of fallen heroes.

This week, your Kirkwood firefighters are sharpening their skills in vertical ventilation, a critical fireground tactic used to release heat, toxic smoke, and gases from a burning structure.

Crews are training on more than just cutting a ventilation opening. They’re focusing on making sure ventilation is coordinated, communicated, and performed at the right time with crews operating inside the building.

When ventilation is done correctly, it can improve conditions for firefighters, increase visibility, and help create a safer environment for anyone trapped inside.

It takes teamwork, timing, and practice.

Today, members of the Kirkwood Fire Department joined firefighters from across the region for the 2026 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Clayton.

Wearing gear and carrying the names and memory of those who never made it home, they climbed 110 floors in honor of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

The climb is difficult. It’s supposed to be. Every floor is a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and commitment shown that morning.

We Will Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters, along with the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, civilians, and countless others whose lives were forever changed that day. Plus the many more after that day due to occupational cancer.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, service, and sacrifice remain with us.

He brings extensive experience and knowledge to the role, having previously served as a Fire Marshal in St. Charles County. We’re excited to have Pete on board and know he’ll be a great asset in elevating fire safety for our department and our community.

Kirkwood Fire Department crews recently worked with staff at Kirkwood High School to provide hands-on training with the school’s evacuation chair.

Evacuation chairs are designed to safely move individuals who may need assistance down stairs during an emergency when elevators cannot be used. Training like this gives school staff the opportunity to practice using the equipment before it’s ever needed in a real emergency.

We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside our schools and help keep students, staff, and visitors safe.
