As part of NEO, new educators received dedicated funds to build their classroom library — selecting books that reflect their students' interests and identities and spark the joy of reading. From picture books to graphic novels and everything in between, these classrooms are being filled with stories that matter. This support comes from funds specifically set aside to equip new teachers.

We’re proud to invest in literacy-rich spaces where all students feel seen, inspired, and excited to read.

Special shout-out to the Special Education Foundation, who ensured our teachers were well caffeinated for shopping by offering a coffee treat to all those in attendance!

Welcome to the team — and happy reading! 🧡📖

The Governing Council is holding a special election to fill the open Board of Education seat in Subdistrict 2, which represents the Affton, Bayless, Hancock Place, and Mehlville school districts. The Governing Council, which elects the Special School District Board of Education, was not able to elect a candidate for Subdistrict 2 at the March 2 meeting and declared an impasse due to a lack of a quorum.

Join us in welcoming our newest staff and wishing them an incredible first year at SSD! 🎉

During a three-day New Educator Orientation (NEO), these new team members explored what it means to be part of SSD, learning about day-to-day life in our District, the special education process, Charting the LifeCourse, and the many resources available to support students and one another.

As we prepare for the new school year, we welcomed:
• 51 classroom teachers
• 10 speech-language pathologists
• 5 school psychologists
• 3 school psychologist interns
• 1 social worker
• 1 nurse
• 1 occupational therapist

Every new team member strengthens our ability to provide the individualized support and services our students deserve. While we're excited to start the year with these incredible professionals, we're still filling positions to ensure every student has the support they need for a successful school year.
