Our story began in 1902 when Kingdom House was founded as a settlement house. Middle class men and women provided education and resources to help the growing immigrant population of St. They created a place of hope, refuge, learning and connection. We’re incredibly proud these ideals have endured even as the community around us has changed and life situations are more challenging. Our organization

has experienced its own metamorphosis as it adapted to meet the needs of our participants in this changing environment. We listened to and learned from them. As we did that, we continued to move away from crisis service transactions toward holistic transformations. Our priorities have shifted to focus on an individual’s overall well-being. Today, we have a model that is based on educational programming fused with personalized and supportive coaching. We see our participants taking measurable steps to better their futures. This evolution of our fundamental vision and approach led us to choose LifeWise StL as our new name in 2019. It conveys what we are about — helping people at every age live wisely. Our mission is to help individuals and families achieve economic well-being by providing high-impact, relationship-based programs and by addressing systemic barriers to their success.

✨𝑭𝑨𝑸 𝑭𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚: Child Savings Accounts 💙✨

LifeWise StL partners with St. Louis Community Credit Union to help kids in our Early Childhood Center build financial assets through Child Savings Accounts. Since 2021:

✨ 42 accounts opened
💰 $42,000+ invested in children’s futures
🌱 $1,000 seed deposit for each child
🤝 Up to $100 in annual matching funds

Research shows that children with savings accounts are more financially aware, more likely to build wealth, invest, and attend and graduate from college.

When children turn 18+, their savings can help fund 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩, 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩, 𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

Whether it’s heading to college, entering the workforce, exploring trade school, or serving in the military, we’re here to guide our LifeWise StL Academy students every step of the way.

This summer our Academy students toured several college campuses, including Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing, Missouri Baptist University and Washington University in St. Louis.

"On the visits, the scholars were able to broaden their horizons and know that college is an option. Some of our scholars didn't know that college was a possibility," said Darrius Harris, Director of LifeWise Academy.

This award is a significant investment in our community and will support LifeWise StL Economic Wellness programs that pair financial education coaching with opportunities in matched savings, debt reduction, credit building, and so much more. Hundreds of families have changed their lives through these programs!

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 from our Disaster Case Management Team! 👋

Our LifeWise team works with adults age 60+ to navigate the complex recovery process from the May 16 tornado, connecting survivors to financial assistance, coordinating home repairs, replacing essential belongings, and ensuring they can safely remain in or return to stable housing. ✨𝑭𝑨𝑸 𝑭𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚: LifeWise Summer Literacy Camp✨

Our Summer Literacy Camp supports elementary and middle school students in south St. Louis City through engaging summer reading enrichment designed to help close achievement gaps.

Overall, 𝟔𝟖 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 participated in reading and math lessons this year to help prevent summer learning loss, and 𝟔,𝟔𝟎𝟖 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐝 to help combat hunger and food insecurity.

But if you asked the kids what their favorite part of camp was, it would almost always be the enrichment activities! Students enjoyed 𝟐𝟖𝟎 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, which included STEM, computer coding, cooking, swimming, sports and recreation, and many more. Students also made field trips to the waterpark, STL Aquarium, and the Magic House.

Thanks to Greater St. Louis Book Fair, AmeriCorps St. Louis, STLARCHS, St. Louis Philanthropic and so many others for supporting these kids!

Congrats to long-time LifeWise StL receptionist Teron Sharp on defending your dissertation! Her doctoral research focuses on the underrepresentation of Black women in K-12 athletic leadership, and she will earn her Doctor of Education from Missouri Baptist University this spring!

Teron serves as the District Director of Athletics and Physical Education/Health for Saint Louis Public Schools, and has served as LifeWise StL's evening receptionist for 16 years.

A proud graduate of Saint Louis Public Schools, she holds a bachelor's degree in history, Master of Arts in Teaching in Social Sciences, Master of Arts in History, and Master of Educational Administration. She remains committed to empowering students to succeed in college, careers, leadership, and life.
