Today, we honor Juneteenth: a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of justice and equity.

Juneteenth marks the day when the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is a time to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate Black culture and achievement, and recommit ourselves to building stronger, more equitable communities for all.

In observance of Juneteenth, Food Outreach will be closed June 19–20. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, June 23.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and reflective Juneteenth.

Today, Food Outreach announces that Executive Director Julie Lock will retire after 11 years of extraordinary leadership.

Since joining Food Outreach in 2016, Julie has helped transform the organization into a regional and national leader in Food Is Medicine. Under her leadership, Food Outreach has nearly doubled its operating budget, expanded its staff and volunteer corps, and now serves nearly 2,000 clients annually with more than 550,000 medically tailored meals each year.

Most importantly, Julie's leadership has helped ensure that thousands of people living with HIV, cancer, and other serious illnesses have had access to the nutrition support they need to heal, thrive, and live with dignity.

While we celebrate Julie's remarkable legacy, this is not goodbye just yet. Julie will remain in her role throughout the leadership transition and will work closely alongside the next Executive Director to ensure a seamless handoff and continued success for the organization.

We are deeply grateful for Julie's vision, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our mission. Please join us in thanking her for more than a decade of impact and in celebrating all that Food Outreach has accomplished under her leadership.
