๐ŸŒŸ What an inspiring afternoon at the St. Louis County Older Adults Commission Annual Meeting!
I had the privilege of attending today and walking away feeling more motivated than ever about the work ahead.
It was wonderful to connect with the amazing Ms. Cookie, an active and passionate advocate for older adults in our community. Her dedication is contagious and a true testament to what showing up for others looks like.
A sincere thank you to Councilwoman Shalonda Webb and the rest of the council for creating space for our communityโ€™s voices to be heard. Watching petitions be received and action being moved forward for seniors in St. Louis County was both humbling and encouraging.
As the founder of Benignity LLC, these moments fuel my purpose. Our mission is to train and equip seniors, families, caregivers, and professionals to provide high-quality, person-centered care for those living with Alzheimerโ€™s Disease and dementia. Being in rooms like this โ€” surrounded by people who genuinely care about our aging community โ€” affirms that we are all in this together.
Every seat at the table matters. Iโ€™m grateful I had one today. ๐Ÿ’™

Last night, I had the honor of attending the St. Louis County Democratsโ€™ 45th Annual Democratic Gala โ€” and I didnโ€™t just show up to celebrate. I showed up to advocate. It was so good to spend time with Jasmine Crockett Wesley Bell , Brian Williams , and Cori Bush! ๐Ÿ’œ

As a gerontologist, I spend my days thinking about older adults โ€” their dignity, their care, their futures. So when I found myself in the same room as my representatives, senators, and other colleagues and supporters, I made sure that voice was heard.

I talked with many people about what I see every day:
๐Ÿ‘ต Older adults in St. Louis and across Missouri who are aging without adequate support systems.
๐Ÿง  Families navigating dementia diagnoses with little guidance, few resources, and enormous emotional and financial burden.
๐Ÿ’› Caregivers โ€” often unpaid, often invisible โ€” who are burning out because we as a society have not built the infrastructure they deserve.
This is not a partisan issue. This is a human issue. But policy shapes reality, and the people in that room make policy.

Iโ€™m grateful for the conversations I had and even more grateful that our elected officials listened. Missouriโ€™s older adult population is growing. Our dementia population is growing. The need for bold, compassionate, coordinated action is urgent.

To my fellow gerontologists, social workers, healthcare professionals, and advocates: find your representatives. Tell your stories. Show up in those rooms. Our expertise is exactly whatโ€™s needed at the table.

To the leaders I spoke with last night: Iโ€™m holding you to those conversations. Older adults and caregivers in St. Louis and Missouri are counting on us.

The work continues. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒฟ Proud to have attended the 2026 Rural Aging Summit today!

This morning I had the privilege of sharing Benignity LLC and joining fellow professionals, advocates, and community members at the Smithton Senior Center for an incredibly impactful event presented by Saric Consulting (Nursing Home Medicaid Assistance).

The summit brought together 5 specialized speakers and local vendors, all focused on addressing the most pressing concerns facing our aging rural communities. The conversations were eye-opening, the insights were invaluable, and the passion in that room was undeniable.
Events like this remind me why this work matters. Rural communities often face unique challenges when it comes to aging โ€” access to care, Medicaid navigation, and community support systems are all areas where connection and collaboration make a real difference.
Iโ€™m walking away with new knowledge, new contacts, and a renewed commitment to supporting the aging community. ๐Ÿ’™

If you work in eldercare, Medicaid assistance, senior services, or rural health โ€” letโ€™s connect! Iโ€™d love to keep this conversation going.

I have some exciting and deeply personal news to share. ๐Ÿ’œ

My book, So Be It: A Caregiver's Guide to Standing In The Breach, will be published soon โ€” and I couldn't be more grateful to finally bring it into the world!

This book was born out of one of the hardest seasons of my life. I had the sacred privilege of caring for my mom, who lived with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease. She passed away on May 7, 2025, and her journey โ€” our journey together โ€” changed me forever.

Through every hard day, every heartbreak, and every tender moment, I clung to Jesus. My faith, along with my educational and professional background as a gerontologist, helped me navigate the grief, the exhaustion, and the deep love that defines this experience.

So Be It is a devotional guide for family caregivers and professional caregivers walking alongside a loved one or patient living with dementia. It's for the moments when you feel like you're losing your footing. It's a reminder that you are not alone, that your work is holy, and that you can stay grounded โ€” even in the hardest of days.

If you know someone caring for a loved one or a patient with dementia, please share this post. This book may be exactly what they need. ๐Ÿ’œ

Stay tuned for the release date โ€” I can't wait to get this into your hands!

What does it look like when a community decides caregivers matter? It looks like last night. โœจ

I had the privilege of attending and sponsoring The Caregiver Clubยฎ's 4th Annual A Night to Care Gala here in St. Louis โ€” an evening that reminded me exactly why this work is so sacred and so necessary.

Started by caregivers for caregivers, The Caregiver Club is an organization working tirelessly to improve the lives of individuals living with Alzheimer's and dementia by supporting the people who love and care for them every single day. They are breaking the stigma of dementia, building community, and making sure caregivers are never invisible.

As a gerontologist, CADDCT, and founder of Benignity LLC, I am deeply committed to this same mission. Sponsoring this event was not just a business decision โ€” it was a personal one. Dementia has touched my family. I know what caregivers carry. And I will always show up for them.

Proud to stand with The Caregiver Club and the entire St. Louis dementia community. Here is to doing this work together. โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Collaboration is where impact begins. ๐Ÿฉต

Today, I had a meaningful conversation with the ULSTL about a shared vision: creating stronger, more accessible support for seniors and their caregivers across the St. Louis region.

Our seniors built this community. Our caregivers sustain it โ€” often quietly, often sacrificially. They deserve more than gratitude. They deserve real resources, real partnerships, and real advocacy.

That's exactly what this work is about.

I'm energized by the possibilities ahead and grateful to be in rooms where people are asking the hard questions AND doing something about it.

If you're working in aging services, caregiver support, or community health in the St. Louis area โ€” let's connect. The more voices at the table, the stronger this work becomes!
