What has our police department been up to so far this year? So far we have responded to 11,157 calls for service (which includes 6,527 officer initiated). We've investigated offenses such as menacing, scams, and criminal damage to name a few. We've made 43 drunk driving arrest, and cited or warned for 3,287 traffic offenses. We have charged 498 criminal offenses, and taken 166 theft reports. We have handled 427 traffic accidents in our city as well. πŸš—πŸš—

Our assaults are up for the year, but domestic related offenses are, so far, down for the year. One of our officers recently stopped a vehicle and found the driver to be in possession of a stolen gun, several gun magazines, knives, walkie talkies, gloves, and masks🧐. Not a good guy combination we'll say🀨 The driver was charged with possessing the stolen property and a drug offense for rollin' down the street with his marijuana ready to smoke (that's a no-no no matter who you are fyi). Great job to our officer on this stop!

The Stow Police Department is proud to welcome its newest K9 officer, Loki. Loki is a one-year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix from Germany. Alongside his handler, Officer Pat Myers, Loki successfully earned certification through the State of Ohio and the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers on June 5. The team is certified in both narcotics detection and patrol operations.

Congratulations to Officer Myers and K9 Loki as they begin serving and protecting the Stow community.

Stow Police Department K9, "Diesel," has officially retired.

The Police Department would like to thank K9 Diesel for his loyal 8.5 years of service. Diesel was truly invaluable to the City. He made a lasting impression on the community, whether during demonstrations or simply visiting with the citizens of Stow.

Diesel's social temperament was especially remarkable. He was friendly, approachable, and beloved by many - but when it was time to work, he gave the job every bit of energy he had.

The Department will greatly miss his presence, especially his constant bark coming from the cruiser. K9 Diesel leaves behind a legacy of dedicated service and a special bond with both the Department and the community he served.

Last Friday Lt. Erik Dirker and his wife April were invited down to participate in the final leg of the Special Olympics Torch Run, and to be the official Law Enforcement Torch Bearer for Opening Ceremonies!πŸ†πŸ”₯ This invitation stemmed from their fundraising efforts, which were the highest in Ohio! πŸ₯‡ Thanks in large part to their efforts, Stow PD raised the second highest amount for this great organization! πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
Stow Officer Eldin Beganovic, who is the law enforcement coordinator for the northeast Ohio leg of the race, was also in Columbus for the final part of the race, and was there to watch Lt. Dirker light the Olympic cauldron alongside a Special Olympic athlete, Etsy Shaw. Thank you Ofc. Beganovic for your hard work and time spent on this event that we all love to support each year!

Thank you Dirkers for your fundraising efforts and thank you to everyone who contributed to help make our organization one of the top providers for this special eventπŸ’™β—ΎπŸ’™β—Ύ

Yesterday Stow PD participated in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run.πŸ† Stow officers were joined by family members, Law Director Drew Reilly, Councilman Kyle Herman, and I.T. Manager Tou Xiong! Runners met Hudson PD at 91/Norton for the torch hand off, then met Cuyahoga Falls PD to see the torch continue its journey to OSU. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒ

The Torch Run is a significant annual event where law enforcement officers, and other first responders, known as the Guardians of the Flame, come together with Special Olympics Ohio athletes to carry the "Flame of Hope" from the four corners of the state. This flame symbolizes courage, perseverance, and the spirit of inclusion!πŸ”₯

The event culminates at the State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies at OHIO STADIUM on the campus of The Ohio State University, on Friday, May 29, where the flame is used to light the cauldron, officially declaring the games open. This event not only raises awareness but also generates critical funds to support Special Olympics Ohio's programs and athletes.

A big thank you to our very own Officer Eldin Beganovic who is the Northeast Ohio leg leader for the Torch Run!
