Get ready for the gala by joining our Just Mercy book club! Pre Shelton, our Community Educator, will lead a discussion on Bryan Stevenson's book in the weeks before the gala, starting next Monday, October 5. Reading it first changes what you hear from the stage: the cases stop being arguments and start being people with names, including our very own Joe Sullivan.

A compelling story of faith at work in the darkest of places. —Kirkus Reviews

Fr. Dustin has written the introduction to Dale Recinella’s A Christian on Death Row: My Commitment to Those Condemned, now available in English from Incendio Press (July 29, 2026). The book was first published in Italian by the Vatican's own publishing house, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, in August 2024.

Brother Dale writes from more than two decades of pastoral ministry on Florida's death row — first-hand accounts of men most of the world has written off. In his preface, Pope Francis calls the work a masterclass in God's mercy. Fr. Dustin reads these accounts as modern-day parables: the power of mercy over condemnation, and of presence over indifference.

It's a reminder that visiting the prisoner is one of the corporal works of mercy, rooted in Christ's own words: "I was… in prison and you visited me." (Mt 25:36)

A powerful choice for a church book club or small group discussion. Available now on Amazon, bn.com, and other online retailers.

What does mercy look like on death row?

Join us for a screening of The Window on Death Row, followed by a panel discussion on faith, mercy, and the human dignity of those behind bars. We're honored to welcome Fr. Dustin Feddon, who walks alongside men on Florida's death row as their spiritual advisor. A light meal will be served before the film — come hungry, stay for the conversation.

🗓 Monday, September 21 | 6:30 PM📍 Good Shepherd Catholic Church 4665 Thomasville Road — Lower Level, Parish Center

Our founder, Fr. Dustin Feddon, recently joined hosts Nil Köksal and Chris Howden on CBC Radio's "As It Happens" to talk about accompanying men on Florida's death row.

Florida has executed men at a dramatically accelerated pace over the past year. Some of you will remember the ProPublica and New York Times reporting we shared over the summer, which drew on Fr. Dustin's reflections. This continues that conversation.

It is a strange and clarifying thing to hear this work discussed on a Canadian national broadcast — and a reminder that what Florida does with its death penalty is not a local question.

Fr. Dustin's segment begins at 9:22.

Before he was a bestselling author, Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer defending people on death row who had no one else in their corner. He went on to found the Equal Justice Initiative, which has won reversals, relief, or release for more than 140 wrongly condemned people and reshaped how this country reckons with mass incarceration.

On October 29, he brings that career — and that conviction — to Tallahassee for Joseph House's 8th Annual Gala.

Having Bryan here is the clearest statement we can make about what this community believes.
