Home prices across our region keep climbing. 🏠

A new list from Stacker, shared by WFTV, ranks the cities with the fastest-growing home prices in the Tallahassee metro, based on Zillow data. Monticello tops the list, with typical home values up more than $13,000 in the past year. In Tallahassee, the typical home is now worth about $294,000.

There are still affordable options close to home. In Gretna, the typical home value is under $100,000, about $93,000. But even there, prices rose nearly 7% last year, the fastest percentage growth in the metro.

That's why affordable housing can't wait. Every month prices rise, more working families in the Big Bend get priced out. At Family Promise of the Big Bend, we help families and veterans find stable housing right here in our community, and we can't do it without you.

Thank you, AMVETS Tallahassee Post 1776! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

We were honored to be featured in your August newsletter. Your post has spent decades honoring and supporting veterans in our community, and we're grateful to stand alongside you in that work. To learn more about Post 1776 and how to get involved, visit amvets1776.org.

Here's what support for our veterans is doing right now: many of the veterans we house are aging, and some use wheelchairs. We're converting showers into safe, accessible walk-in showers so every veteran can live with dignity and independence at home.

Want to help? Every gift brings us closer to finishing these upgrades.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has announced a record $1.17 billion in Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) grants.
What is SSVF? It's a program that helps very low-income Veteran families who are homeless, at imminent risk of homelessness, or transitioning out of homelessness into permanent housing. Services include case management, housing placement assistance, and limited financial assistance based on need. Contact us at: (850) 597-5595 or [email protected]
Family Promise of the Big Bend has long operated an SSVF program locally, Advocates for Veterans Housing, helping Veterans and their families in our region find and keep stable housing.

🧦 When Girl Scout Troop 11221 toured HOPE Community to learn about homelessness in our community, they didn't just take notes β€” they brought what they learned to life through a sock puppet story, so others could understand it too.

Their message is simple and powerful: homelessness can touch anyone, and awareness and compassion start with listening to those who've experienced it.

Thank you, Troop 11221, for using your voices to raise awareness and remind us all that empathy is something every generation can practice. πŸ’š

🌟 Celebrating Our Inaugural Hope & Healing Lunch & Learn! 🌟

On Saturday, August 29th, we hosted our inaugural Hope & Healing Lunch & Learn, bringing families and community partners together for connection, resources, and support. 🏑

The event focused on providing transitioning families with essential resources and support to reduce stressors and promote long-term stability.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Markeisa Tassy of Markeisa Tassy Enterprise, whose own journey from survivor to author and advocate embodies exactly what "Hope & Healing" means to our families.

We're also so grateful to the community partners who showed up to connect families directly with resources: Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare - TMH for bringing behavioral health and wellness resources to the table, and the Family Resource Centers of Leon County / , for helping families navigate support close to home. as well as these fabulous partners: Families First, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend, Big Bend Cares, Cross Creek Family Resource Center, Early Learning Coalition and the Leon Count Library team

To all of our amazing community partners and families who helped make this event a success, thank you! We can't wait to build on this for our next Lunch & Learn.

Today was a milestone worth celebrating. πŸŽ–οΈ
We were honored to welcome Simon and State Representative Allison Tant to tour our newly renovated veteran housing community β€” and to officially rename it Valor at Balkin in honor of the formerly homeless veterans who now call it home.
This renovation wouldn't have been possible without the partners who showed up for our veterans: the VFW , the VA, and so many others who believe that those who served deserve a place to land.
Valor at Balkin stands as a reminder that housing is more than shelter β€” it's dignity, stability, and a fresh start for those who gave so much.
Thank you to everyone who joined us today, and to every partner who helped make this vision real.
