PROTECT IT. INSPECT IT. PUMP IT.

Your septic system needs regular care.

We've covered what goes down the sink, what gets flushed and how we use water. Now let's talk about maintenance.

Your septic system is an important part of your home's infrastructure—and just like your HVAC system, vehicle or roof, it needs regular attention.

🔎 Protect It & Inspect It
Know where your septic tank and drainfield are located. Watch for signs of problems and have your system inspected as recommended.

🚛 Pump Your Tank
Have your septic tank pumped at intervals recommended by a qualified professional and/or local permitting authority.

🌱 Shield Your Field
Keep vehicles, heavy equipment, livestock and deep-rooted trees away from your drainfield.

💧 Keep It Clean
If you have a private well, regular water testing is an important part of protecting your family's drinking water.

Taking care of your septic system today can help prevent bigger—and more expensive—problems tomorrow.

DON'T STRAIN YOUR DRAIN!

Your septic system needs time to properly treat wastewater.

Using a large amount of water all at once can put extra stress on your system.

Try these simple tips:

✔️ Fix leaking faucets and toilets.
✔️ Spread out loads of laundry throughout the week.
✔️ Avoid running multiple water-intensive appliances at the same time.
✔️ Choose water-efficient appliances when replacing them.
✔️ Be mindful of how much water your household uses.

Small changes in water use can help your septic system work more efficiently.

THE TOILET IS NOT A TRASH CAN. 🚽

One of the easiest ways to protect your septic system is to remember:

If it isn't toilet paper, don't flush it!

Items such as wipes, diapers, feminine hygiene products, paper towels, cotton products and other trash belong in the garbage—not the toilet.

Even products labeled “flushable” more often then not, create problems for wastewater systems.

💡 Simple rule:
Flush toilet paper. Trash everything else.

Your septic system—and your plumber—will thank you!

✔️ Let grease cool and dispose of it properly.
✔️ Avoid putting fats, oils and grease down the drain.
✔️ Use cleaning products as directed and in moderation.
