It doesn’t always work out! Middle school
Students in Miss Russell’s cooking elective learned the “hard” way that hard boiling fresh eggs from Drachman’s chickens results in eggs that are incredibly hard to peel. Rather than resort to grocery store eggs, students used a pressure cooker the second time around, with a much better result. The experience led to a mini science lesson exploring why fresh eggs respond that way, and a research project where kids looked for solutions. Learning isn’t always pretty, but at Drachman we make it safe, exploratory, and fun.

🥚 From earth to art, Ms. Rebecca and Ms. Lauren's ceramics elective students are learning through their hands!
Students are creating ceramic egg pendants and keychains while exploring the incredible transformation of clay. They experience firsthand how soft, workable clay changes as it dries, becomes bisqueware in the kiln, is carefully glazed, and is fired once again to create a strong, finished piece.
This kind of hands-on work reflects the heart of Montessori learning: purposeful movement, concentration, patience, creativity, and an understanding of how materials respond to our actions. Each tiny egg carries the story of a process,and the careful hands that shaped it. 🤲✨
And soon, some of these student-made treasures may be available for purchase! 👀 Stay tuned!
