🎶 Our Hawks Are Making Some Noise! 🎺🎶

Last weekend, some of our PRE Hawks joined other beginning musicians from across the district at Marana High School for a special Band & Orchestra event! 💜💛

We love seeing our students stepping outside their comfort zones, trying something new, and beginning their journey as musicians. From clarinets and flutes to trumpets, these Hawks are just getting started! 🎵

A big shoutout to all of our PRE students who participated, and to the teachers and staff helping our newest musicians discover a love of music. 🦅🎶



I wouldn't put the students' names in the public caption, even with media releases. The pictures can celebrate them without identifying individual elementary students by full name publicly. And if you have several good photos, this is another one I'd do as an Instagram/Facebook carousel, with the strongest group/action photo first rather than making a collage.

🧠 Math Looks a Little Different Around Here...

If you peek into 3rd grade during math, you might notice something: our Hawks aren’t sitting quietly at their desks. 👀

They’re standing. They’re talking. They’re drawing. They’re questioning. They’re trying an idea, erasing it, and trying something different.

Our 3rd graders are using Building Thinking Classrooms to tackle math together at vertical whiteboards. Instead of simply being shown how to solve a problem, students are challenged to think, collaborate, explain their reasoning, and learn from one another. 🧠✏️

And sometimes the best learning happens when the first idea doesn’t work.

💜 A Promise They Can Wear

Our kindergarten Hawks in Mrs. Gonzalez’s and Mrs. Cervantez’s classes have been busy building more than classroom routines. They’re building their classroom communities! 🦅

Each class worked together to create a Social Contract, choosing five words that represent how they want to be treated and how they promise to treat one another as a classroom family.

Then came the fun part! 🫶 Each word was represented by a different color, and students created friendship bracelets they can wear as a reminder of the promises they made to one another.

Five words. Five colors. One classroom promise. 💜

Our littlest Hawks are already learning that a great classroom is something everyone has a hand in creating.

We love seeing our kinders start the year by building friendships, community, and a place where everyone belongs! 💜💛

Six schools have projects for volunteers of all ages to join, and MMS is also hosting a blood drive on 9/5. 💬 Big Conversations from Our Littlest Hawks!

Kindergarten is learning that being a great classroom community means knowing how to listen, share, and learn from one another! 💜🦅

As part of their First 20 Days, Ms. Gonzalez’s kinders practiced a collaborative Turn & Talk after their read-aloud about voice control.

Students received partner cards, found their matching partner, and practiced following their Turn & Talk expectations as they shared what stuck with them from the story. Then they headed back to put their thinking on paper and add their Post-it to the class collection! 📝💭

They’re learning classroom routines, building independence, practicing their voices, and discovering that their classmates have some pretty great ideas too.

Way to go, little Hawks! 💜💛
