A safe place. A fresh start. A mother’s determination. ❤️

When S.E. arrived at the Tulsa County Transitional Living Center, she and her two children were fleeing domestic violence and needed one thing first — safety.

Like many families experiencing homelessness, one setback quickly led to another. Without reliable transportation, S.E. lost her job and found herself trying to rebuild while also working to create a stable future for her children.

While at TLC, S.E. got to work.

✔️ She secured tribal TANF assistance
✔️ She applied for employment opportunities
✔️ She searched for permanent housing
✔️ She continued taking steps forward for her family every single day

Her hard work paid off — not only did S.E. receive a job offer… she received two, including one with childcare support.

Then came the call she had been waiting for: the apartment she applied for was approved, and she could move in the very next day. 🏡

S.E.’s stay with us was short, but sometimes a safe place to land is exactly what someone needs to rise.

TLC provided shelter and support — but S.E. brought the courage, determination, and love for her children that carried her across the finish line.

Congratulations, S.E.! We are so proud of you and excited for this next chapter. 💙

Meeting needs. Restoring hope. Walking beside you as you rise.

🏠 TLC Success Story: M.C.’s Journey Home

Success doesn’t happen overnight. Sometimes it happens one small decision at a time.

When M.C. came to the Tulsa County Transitional Living Center, he had a goal: rebuild stability and move forward. Like many people experiencing homelessness, there were obstacles along the way — transportation challenges, employment changes, budgeting decisions, and unexpected setbacks.

But M.C. kept showing up.

With support from his TLC Case Management team, he created a plan and put that plan into action. He searched for new employment opportunities, worked toward financial stability, and learned tools to help him be successful long after leaving TLC.

During his time in the program, M.C. worked on building a realistic budget, improving his understanding of credit, making thoughtful financial decisions, and developing everyday skills like planning and shopping for groceries.

Through TLC’s savings program, M.C. committed to setting money aside from his income and preparing for the responsibilities that come with independent housing. He wasn’t just working toward getting an apartment — he was building the foundation needed to maintain it.

His hard work paid off.

M.C. secured employment, saved for his move-in expenses, and officially moved into his own apartment. 🎉

Stories like M.C.’s remind us that progress is not always a straight line. Progress looks like applying for one more job. Reviewing your budget. Saving another paycheck. Learning a new skill. Asking for support. Trying again.

At TLC, we believe in providing more than shelter. TLC provides structure, resources, and encouragement while our clients do the hard work of creating lasting change in their own lives.

Congratulations, M.C.! We are so proud of your determination and all the steps you’ve taken toward your next chapter. 💙

Meeting needs. Restoring hope. Walking beside you as you rise.

🏠 Things You May Not Know About TLC…

Before someone walks through this door, it may look like an empty room.

But we see something different.

We see a fresh start. ❤️

At the Tulsa County Transitional Living Center, a room is just the beginning. Our clients work alongside our team to rebuild stability one step at a time through:

✔ Setting goals
✔ Building savings
✔ Working toward employment
✔ Searching for stable housing
✔ Creating a plan for what comes next

Because our goal isn’t simply to provide a place to stay.

Our goal is to help people move forward. 🏡

Every empty room represents two stories:
✨ Someone who found their next chapter
✨ Someone new who gets the opportunity to begin theirs

Meeting needs. Restoring hope. Walking beside you as you rise.

When someone is working to rebuild their life, progress doesn’t always happen all at once.

Sometimes progress looks like…

✔ Replacing an ID that was lost along the way.
✔ Starting a new job and receiving that first paycheck.
✔ Building savings for the future.
✔ Showing up tomorrow and taking the next right step.

At the Tulsa County Transitional Living Center, every step forward matters. Our team walks alongside clients as they set goals, overcome barriers, and prepare for long-term housing stability.

Because success isn’t just the day someone receives their keys. 🏡

It’s every step they took to get there. ❤️

💵 Things You May Not Know About TLC…

At the Tulsa County Transitional Living Center, our clients don’t just receive a room — they build a plan. ❤️

One important part of that plan is learning to create financial stability.

While at TLC, clients work alongside their Housing Specialist Case Manager to:
✔ Set employment goals
✔ Build savings
✔ Search for safe, stable housing
✔ Prepare for long-term success

Because overcoming homelessness isn’t just about having a place to stay tonight — it’s about having the tools and support needed for tomorrow. 🏡

Our goal isn’t a longer shelter stay.

✨ Our goal is a successful exit. ✨

🎶 “Shrinky D***s, I love to make ’em shrink!” 🎶

Who else remembers watching their tiny masterpiece curl up in the oven and magically transform?! 🙋‍♀️✨

Tonight our friends from Discovery Lab brought a little throwback fun (and a whole lot of science!) to the Transitional Living Center. Our clients got creative designing their own Shrinky D***s and then watched science do its thing as heat transformed their artwork into something completely new. 🖍️🔥

And honestly… isn’t that a little bit like life? Sometimes the process feels uncomfortable, sometimes things look like they’re curling up instead of coming together — but transformation is happening. 💙

We are so thankful for community partners who remind our clients and families that joy, creativity, learning, and new memories are part of rebuilding too.

Because at TLC, we aren’t just helping people find housing — we’re helping them rediscover hope. 🏡✨

Thank you, Discovery Lab, for another night of smiles, science, and a little bit of childhood nostalgia!

As Tulsa’s newly released 2026 Point-In-Time (PiT) Count reminds us, homelessness continues to impact hundreds of individuals and families across our community. On a single night in January 2026, 1,443 people were identified as experiencing homelessness in Tulsa County, with lack of affordable housing listed as the #1 reported cause.

The report also showed:
• Emergency shelter utilization reached 137% capacity
• Average asking rent in Tulsa has increased 27% since 2020
• 77% of individuals counted reported having a disabling condition
• 33% reported experiencing domestic violence

These numbers remind us that homelessness is rarely caused by just one thing. Rising housing costs, loss of income, mental health challenges, medical issues, domestic violence, and lack of affordable housing all play a role.

At the Tulsa County Social Services Transitional Living Center (TLC), we see these realities every day — but we also see hope, resilience, and success stories.

While our fiscal year (July '25 to June '26) is not quite over yet, we wanted to share some of the progress being made through the TLC program from July 2025 through May 2026:
🏠 108 individuals housed through the TLC program
🏠 267 individuals meeting HUD’s housed definition
🍽️ 12,421 meals served
🚐 3,138 van service destinations completed
👥 192 program admits
💙 Hundreds of individuals and families served through shelter, case management, transportation, meals, housing navigation, and supportive services

One thing we want to clarify is that our “TLC Housed” definition is intentionally stricter than the HUD definition of housed. The TLC only counts households that successfully complete our program expectations and move into stable housing outcomes through our accountability-based model. HUD’s definition is broader and includes additional positive housing placements. Both measurements matter and help tell the full story.

One of the most encouraging takeaways from this year’s data is the number of individuals and families actively moving toward permanent housing:
• 58 households that are working with the TLC are approved for vouchers but still waiting to receive them
• 145 people approved for vouchers and preparing for housing opportunities
• 20 people currently holding vouchers and actively searching for housing

The challenges facing our community are real — but so is the impact that can happen when accountability, compassion, partnerships, and support come together.

Thank you to our staff, community partners, landlords, volunteers, and supporters who help make this work possible every day. Together, we continue working toward savings, skills, and stability for Tulsa County families. 💚
