Can we talk about "Automatic Crash Detection"?

This feature comes enabled on newer iPhones. When enabled, any sort of quick, intense movement or pressure - for instance, your phone flying off the roof of your vehicle or tailer - will trigger an automatic call to 911 saying you have been involved in a crash.

The fun also includes "boat crashes" (i.e. you drop your phone in the creek or river), and "falls" (i.e. you drop your phone from the loft of your barn).

Every time a crash detection is sent to 911, it triggers a response from us, fire and police.

There may be very important reasons to leave it enabled, but we want you to know about this feature and consider whether it is important to you.

To disable, go to Settings ->Emergency SOS ->and scroll to "Crash Detection". It can be toggled on or off.

Be safe!

New Episode | Aero Methow: Caring for Our Community

What does it really mean to answer a 911 call in a place where the person you're helping may also be your friend, your neighbor, or someone you'll see at the grocery store next week?

In this episode of Between Here and Help, host Nicole Ringgold returns to Aero Methow Rescue Service—this time for a conversation with Ruth Payne, Brian McAuliffe, and Ian Ross about the human side of rural emergency medicine.

They talk about their very different paths into EMS, responding across the Methow Valley's vast and sometimes remote terrain, working alongside volunteers and Search and Rescue, and what it means to care for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. They also share the calls that have stayed with them, the importance of compassion and dignity, and why emergency care is sometimes less about lights and sirens and more about simply being there for someone who needs help.

As Ian says near the end of the conversation, "We're our best resource for each other… We're our community taking care of our community."

That's the heart of this episode.

Methow Housing Trust: Stewarding Homes

In the newest episode of Between Here and Help, host Nicole Ringgold sits down with Tom Venable, Executive Director of the Methow Housing Trust, for a thoughtful conversation about one of the most important issues facing our valley: housing.

Together, they explore how the Community Land Trust model creates permanently affordable homes, why stewardship is at the heart of the Housing Trust's mission, and how stable housing provides so much more than shelter. It's a conversation about dignity, belonging, opportunity, and the kind of community we hope to leave for future generations.

Whether you're curious about the Methow Housing Trust, wondering how the Community Land Trust model works, or simply care about the future of the Methow Valley, this episode offers an inspiring look at what it means to invest in people as much as place.

We were devastated to learn of the fatal accident last week in Norway that took away one of our volunteer responders. A loving father, devoted husband, accomplished researcher and all around great guy, Joe left us too early. He was a volunteer EMT with us since 2017 and always relished the opportunity to run a shift when he was in town. We hold his family in our hearts. Rest in Peace, Joe. We will take it from here.

What if the biggest barrier to receiving lifesaving medical care wasn't the treatment itself—but simply getting there?

In the newest episode of Between Here and Help, host Nicole Ringgold sits down with Russell Stearns, Director of Outreach for Angel Flight West, and volunteer pilot Clay Ross for a remarkable conversation about the people who are quietly transforming access to healthcare across the western United States.

Powered by volunteer pilots, volunteer drivers known as Earth Angels, and an extraordinary operations team, Angel Flight West has completed more than 100,000 free missions, connecting people to cancer treatment, specialized pediatric care, hospice services, and other essential medical appointments that might otherwise be out of reach.

The conversation also explores Angel Flight West's work helping survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking relocate to safety, the profound relationships that develop between pilots and passengers, and the simple but powerful truth that sometimes healing begins with someone willing to help you get where you need to go.

This is a conversation about compassion, generosity, and the countless people working behind the scenes to ensure that distance doesn't determine who receives care.
