City of Union, Kentucky was honored today being recognized as a 2026 Beautify the Bluegrass Governor’s Award Finalist for our Cardinal Park.

We would like to thank Kentucky Living Magazine, Kentucky Electric Cooperatives, and the Kentucky Governors Office for recognizing Cardinal Park and celebrating projects that make communities across the Commonwealth more beautiful.

Union’s Cardinal Park began with an unexpected opportunity. Following the Mt. Zion Road project completion, parcels of land were left behind that could have been left unused. Instead, we sought to improve these spaces.

This represents more than a recreated space, it shows our hometown pride, collaboration, and the belief that even an overlooked corner of our city can become something to enjoy and cherish by our community.

We are grateful to everyone who helped bring Cardinal Park to life and proud to see the City of Union recognized alongside communities across Kentucky.
