Bill Warman of The Maine Garden in Brooks is the generous soul who has been sharing his daylilies with the town. He also hybridizes peonies (photos are of mine, not his), and informed me that they are at their peak right now. If anyone is interested in seeing them he just requests that you call ahead so he knows you’re coming— individuals or groups. His phone number is 342-5663.

UPRC will have a limited supply of daylilies available by donation this week, our fourth batch from the stock of a local hybridizer who is making them available to the town. Unlabeled as to variety and color, but he has put different varieties in each tub he's giving me so if getting multiples you can be assured of an assortment. Suggested donation $4 each or 4/$10 benefits Unity Parks and Recreation and helps with planting costs. Healthy, organically grown bare root plants that won't disappoint!

The first ones planted on the Triangle have established good root systems and are thriving (even some that got buried under cinder blocks in the auto accident), and later plantings aren't far behind them.

Plot twist!
Given the hot forecast for Wednesday we will be having an ice cream social instead of a gardening program. Ice cream, including lactose free, cones or cups or make your own sundae.... Bring a (true) story from your life in Unity to share. Uzzle and Abductkion will be available to play if anyone wants to.

Then at two we will have a visit from a couple of Unity EMTs. They will be bringing the ambulance for folks to check out and provide a File if Life and DNR paperwork for each person attending and discuss its importance, placement and how to fill it out. They will bring in a stretcher and explain the different medical equipment on it to help ease the patient's anxiety and have more knowledge. If you've been fortunate enough to avoid a trip in an ambulance or have had one but were too stressed to understand what was going on, this will be your opportunity to have an insider's look at the process and procedures.

All area residents are welcome to attend.

According to Mammie's people have been asking about cribbage. UPRC discontinued our monthly tournaments due to lack of participation, but we have the boards and score sheets and are happy to re-start if there is community interest. Please message us or email [email protected] if you'd like to see it offered again, and let us know if Wednesday or Thursday evenings would work best for you. Also... we would love to have a volunteer coordinator for this program with some cribbage experience. One of our committee members is willing to oversee, but she has never played, so another possibility would be if someone could meet with her a few times to teach her the basics of the game. We look forward to hearing from you!

Due to the demands of the daylily project, which will be ongoing into June and maybe beyond, on our available volunteers, the Committee voted last night to cancel the 2026 Rubber Ducky Derby. Plans are to bring it back next year.
