The CHP Golden Gate Division serves nine Bay Area counties, providing the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to over 7 million people. Our division is comprised of twelve Area Offices, three Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facilities, one Communications Center, and an Air Operations unit. e best and most efficient service from the dedicated members of the CHP. The California Highway Patrol is the primary law enforcement agency for the freeways and highways of the State of California. The CHP also provides traffic enforcement services and general law enforcement to the many unincorporated communities of the Bay Area. CHP also provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies as needed. Each CHP employee is dedicated to ensuring you get home safely, that quality services are provided to you when you need it, and that you feel safe and secure as you travel throughout our great state. As the seventh largest law enforcement agency in the nation, the Department will continue its primary responsibility to anticipate and respond to the needs of the public which it serves. As fans filled the stadium and brought incredible energy throughout the day, CHP personnel worked alongside our partner agencies to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending the event.

MOBILE ROAD ENFORCEMENT (MRE)🚛🚨🚔

The California Highway Patrol offers a wide variety of specialized assignments beyond traditional patrol.

This officer is assigned to the CHP’s Golden Gate Division Commercial Operations Unit as a Mobile Road Enforcement (MRE) officer. MREs focus on commercial vehicle safety through inspections, education, and enforcement. Their work helps identify mechanical defects, safety violations, and other issues that could put motorists at risk.

These commercial enforcement teams help keep California’s highways safe for everyone who travels them.

The first FIFA World Cup match in the Bay Area is behind us, but we know it’s not time to rest yet. We’ll be back on Tuesday as Austria 🇦🇹 and Jordan 🇯🇴 face off in Santa Clara.

A big thank you to our Valley Division Special Response Team (SRT) personnel who made the trip down to help us accomplish our mission of keeping everyone safe throughout the day! The open filing period for the Motor Carrier Specialist I (MCS I) exam is now open through June 11, 2026, and the testing is 100% online!!!

Applicants will be able to complete the placement exam from the comfort of their own home anytime between July 24, 2026, and July 30, 2026.

Shortly after the exam results have been posted Golden Gate Division Motor Carrier Safety Unit will post open job positions for those who were successful in the testing to apply for.

Motor Carrier Specialist I personnel play a critical role in the CHP’s commercial enforcement program. Duties include inspecting motor carriers for compliance with safety regulations, reviewing driver and vehicle records, monitoring hazardous materials transport, and evaluating commercial vehicles such as school buses, buses, trucks, trailers, and modified limousines. Their work helps keep California’s roadways safe by ensuring commercial vehicles operate responsibly and within the law.

PERSON INJURED IN FREEWAY SHOOTING ON INTERSTATE 580


San Leandro, Calif. — A teenage passenger was injured in a freeway shooting Saturday morning on Interstate 580 (I-580).

On June 6, 2026, at approximately 1:55 a.m., officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Hayward Area office were dispatched to a reported freeway shooting that occurred on I-580 between Oakland and San Leandro. Following the shooting, the victims exited the freeway and drove to 150th Avenue and Freedom Avenue, where they waited for emergency responders.

Responding officers contacted the driver and passenger at the secondary location. The passenger, a teenage juvenile, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The CHP’s Golden Gate Division Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation. At this time, the suspect information and motive for the shooting remain unknown. Detectives are actively working to identify the suspect(s) involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone with information related to this shooting is encouraged to contact the CHP Investigative Tipline at (707) 917-4491.

MAN INJURED IN FREEWAY SHOOTING IN RICHMOND

RICHMOND, Calif. — A victim was injured in a freeway shooting late Monday evening in Richmond following a road rage incident on Interstate 80 (I-80).

On May 25, at approximately 7:33 p.m., officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Oakland Area office were dispatched to a freeway shooting that occurred on eastbound I-80, west of Hilltop Drive.

Responding officers contacted the victim at a secondary location after he exited the freeway to wait for emergency responders. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his right shoulder and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The CHP’s Golden Gate Division Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and opened an investigation. All lanes of eastbound I-80 at El Portal Drive were temporarily closed to allow officers to process the scene. After speaking with the victim and witnesses, it was determined that the shooting occurred following a road rage incident. Detectives are actively working to identify suspect(s) in this incident, and anyone with information is asked to call the CHP Investigative Tipline at (707) 917-4491.
