On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the Wildwood Crest Police Department will join law enforcement agencies across New Jersey in the statewide Goal: Zero traffic safety initiative.

The mission of Goal: Zero is simple: reduce crashes, prevent injuries, and eliminate traffic fatalities through education and targeted enforcement.

Throughout the enforcement period, officers will be focusing on unsafe driving behaviors that continue to be leading causes of serious crashes, including:

Distracted driving
Seat belt violations
Reckless driving
Failure to yield to pedestrians
Stop sign and traffic signal violations

This month's campaign also recognizes the legacy of Navy Ensign John R. Elliott, who lost his life to an impaired driver on July 22, 2000. In response to that tragedy, his family established the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers, an organization dedicated to preventing impaired driving by encouraging everyone to plan ahead and choose a sober designated driver.

Whether you're driving, walking, or riding a bicycle, everyone plays a role in roadway safety. Slow down, stay focused, buckle up, obey traffic laws, and never drive impaired.

Members of the Cape May County Fire Chiefs Association recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with Congressman Jefferson Van Drew. The discussion focused on key issues impacting the fire service and ways federal programs can support Cape May County fire departments.
Topics included funding and grant opportunities, staffing challenges, equipment needs, and training initiatives. We appreciate Congressman Van Drew and all of our elected officials for their continued support in helping us better serve our communities.
