America’s Service Commissions (ASC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association representing and promoting the 52 state service commissions across the United States and territories with the mission to lead and elevate the state service network. State service commissions are governor-appointed public agencies or nonprofit organizations made up of more than 1,000 commissioners, private citizens leading the nation’s service movement and administering more than 75 percent of the federal AmeriCorps funds to address pressing community needs.

In My Service Era Highlight! 🌟

Today we are recognizing Stephanie Estrada, and her inspiring story of service she is doing alongside Maggie's Place in Phoenix, Arizona.

"I was drawn to AmeriCorps service at Maggie’s Place because of its commitment to presence, dignity, and walking alongside others in moments that are both tender and hard. What has kept me here are the relationships with the moms, babies, staff, volunteers, and the reminder that showing up consistently matters.

I’ve learned that service isn’t about fixing or having the right answers, but about choosing to walk with people, especially in uncertainty. Through my time as an AmeriCorps, I’ve learned the power of listening, patience, and holding space. I’ve seen how resilience shows up in quiet, everyday moments and how joy can exist alongside hardship — in shared meals, laughter in the kitchen, small milestones, and the comfort of not being alone.

What I hope to take with me is a deeper sense of compassion and a commitment to carry this way of being into whatever comes next. Community has taught me that healing doesn’t happen in isolation, but through relationships rooted in care, belonging, and love."

State Service News!

AmeriCorps recently awarded more than $14 million to 30 organizations dedicated to engaging residents in meaningful volunteer activities across the country. These funds were allocated to focus on expanding volunteer opportunities, volunteer recruitment, and participation in the country's two national days of service.

TTA Tuesday Highlight💡

This Tuesday, we are highlighting Amy Salinas and Sara Fry, LLC who are listed in our TTA Directory.

Amy Salinas, a self-described AmeriNerd, has spent 28 years in the national service field. Amy began her journey as an AmeriCorps member, then worked for that same AmeriCorps State program. Afterwards, she worked for OneStar, the Texas state service commission, as a program officer, training specialist, and disability inclusion specialist. And for the last 19 years, Amy has worked as a consultant within the national service family working to train and support the amazing leaders we have in this field in addition to being a national VISTA Trainer and Regional Leader.

Sara Fry, former AmeriCorps member and government supervisor, provides consulting & training services bringing hands-on experience from classroom instruction to federal grant oversight. During her time at AmeriCorps (aka CNCS), she provided TTA, managed grant competitions, and conducted programmatic and financial monitoring across all service streams. She has led teams, developed corrective action plans, and supported grantees nationwide. Now, through her LLC, she partners with national service and volunteer organizations to strengthen compliance, improve programs, and drive impact.

American University recently released a short film entitled, "When Communities Need Us Most: Empowering AmeriCorps Partners to Lead in Times of Crisis".

This film features leaders from various state commissions, nonprofits, and organizations that focus on disaster relief. Phil Kolling, ASC's Vice Chair, makes an appearance and shares SerVermont's story of service during Hurricane Irene.

Honor September 11th by pledging a good deed along with millions of fellow Americans.

9/11 Day recently launched UNIITE For Good campaign which rallies Americans to come together through action.

"The two “I”s become people, objects and symbols associated with service and everyday acts of good: volunteers standing side by side, grocery bags left for a neighbor, work gloves in a community garden, paint cans at a neighborhood restoration project and other simple representations of people helping people."

ASC has gathered a few good deeds you can do to remember 9/11.
