This Tuesday, we are highlighting Jefts Consulting and McNary Group who are listed in our TTA Directory.

Jennifer Cowart has been involved with AmeriCorps for over 20 years. She has extensive experience coaching and training AmeriCorps grantees in compliance and high-quality elements and supporting them in developing systems, documents, and processes to ensure a strong foundation. Jennifer has worked with numerous state commissions and their AmeriCorps programs to provide a range of training and technical assistance including program coaching, grant writing, grant/program management, and member/site management.

The vision of the McNary Group is to build strong communities through equitable systems. They are driven by the values of equity, compassion, social and economic justice, integrity, and ethics. This past weekend at the National Governors Association Summer Meeting, the new NGA chair, Governor Wes Moore of Maryland, announced Service United, a new, bipartisan initiative to promote paid workforce and community development through state-based service programs. The initiative will help governors across all 50 states and five territories to create and expand service opportunities.

America's Service Commissions was proud to be represented on the launch panel by John Kelly, Executive Director of Serve Colorado and incoming CEO of America's Service Commissions, alongside Governors Wes Moore and Kevin Stitt, Dan Vallone of the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, and Dr. Bechara Choucair of Kaiser Permanente.

The discussion highlighted how service is a strategy for expanding opportunity, developing talent, strengthening communities, and addressing critical challenges facing states and communities.

State service commissions are uniquely positioned to help turn this vision into reality. Across the country, commissions are building partnerships, supporting AmeriCorps programs, and connecting service to workforce development, education, public health, and economic mobility.

In My Service Era Highlight!

Today, we are highlighting Alex Tran a 5-time AmeriCorps alum and is now with Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) as an AmeriCorps VISTA.

"I began my "Service Era" in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I found AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) and, for about a year, traveled across the country, serving communities in Louisiana, Kansas, and New Mexico. Finally, I had the opportunity to help during the pandemic when my team went to Queens, New York, to assist FEMA, the Coast Guard, the Navy, and the State of New York in administering approved COVID-19 vaccines. During my time at NCCC, I felt a sense of purpose I had not felt in a long time, and I realized there was still work to be done for America. That is when I began my "service era."

ASC is happy to be a founding member of the National Commemoration Committee, and we are joining forces with 9/11 Day to observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11 this year.

We invite you and your crew to join a service project to remember 9/11 through service or create your own. Take a look at some ideas below.

1. Visit a veterans home or hospital.
2. Help people register to vote.
3. Help translate TED Talks.

Together we can demonstrate that even 25 years later, the legacy of service inspired by 9/11 continues to bring people together and make a meaningful difference.
