MOZART Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major - Clarinet

MUSIC MONDAY | Today we celebrate a staple instrument of The United States Air Force Band - the clarinet! A member of the woodwind family, the clarinet has a warm, mellow tone produced by a single reed attached to the mouthpiece of the instrument.

This year we're featuring USAF Band clarinetist Master Sgt. Ben Bowers and "The President's Own" United States Marine Band clarinetist, Staff Sgt. Kristin Bowers as they perform a duet from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major, K. 331", arranged by Peter Hodgson. We hope you enjoy this clarinet joint service musical collaboration!

"When Johnny Comes Marching Home" - Trad./Arr. by MSgt John Bliss

MUSIC MONDAY | As we join together on Veterans Day this year, we celebrate our servicemen and women through the power of a joint service musical collaboration. The United States Air Force Band joined with percussionists from The Marine Band, Army Band, and Coast Guard Band to bring you a reimagined rendition of the American patriotic classic, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”. Arranged by USAF Band composer and staff arranger, Master Sgt. John Bliss, this piece is a tribute to the excellence demonstrated throughout all branches of the United States military, exemplifying the uniting spirit of Veteran’s Day. Also, special thanks to the Army Presidential Salute Battery, Old Guard, who took the time to set up the 2 cannons for our video shoot!

JBAB SPOTLIGHT | 20,000 JBAB military personnel and tenants rely on Ms. Anna Callahan every day. Why? As Drinking Water/Wastewater Program Manager, she ensures that the base’s water adheres to all EPA regulatory requirements. Since taking the lead on this program she has modernized the ability to monitor the water levels. “We installed automatic flushers on hydrants around base. These flushers were placed in strategic locations across base where chlorine levels were low, due to less water use. The hydrants allow for water turnover on a set schedule, providing fresh drinking water in the building for the consumer. We also installed above-grade sampling taps at entry points where water enters the base system from the DC Water mainline. These taps provide me the ability to sample the drinking water as it enters our system,” explains Callahan.

Like any successful program, Ms. Callahan credits a team approach. She is in regular contact with the 11th Civil Engineering Squadron. Ms. Callahan further elaborates, “We have a great, well-rounded Environmental team on base. We have subject matter experts that manage environmental programs such as NEPA, Hazardous Waste, Air, Tanks, Stormwater, Drinking Water, and Wastewater.”

So how did Ms. Callahan become a Physical Scientist? “I’ve always loved hydrology, and the science behind drinking water. It is rewarding to be able to read lab reports, digest them, and know that our drinking water system is healthy for everyone working and living on base.”

When Ms. Callahan is not working with an environmental team you may find her walking the National Mall with her husband and two dogs. Help us thank Ms. Callahan for her continued hard work keeping our base personnel and residences safe!
