Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding Together Repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives. We envision safe homes and communities for everyone.

Rebuilding Together is the leading national nonprofit organization repairing the homes of people in need and revitalizing our communities. Through its national network of affiliates, Rebuilding Together works proactively and collaboratively with community leaders, long-term residents, funders and volunteers to foster dialogue and create safe, healthy communities together across the country. In 197

3, a small group of people in Midland, Texas, realized a growing need in their community. Homes in their community had fallen into disrepair and their neighbors could not afford to fix them on their own. The group volunteered their time and skills to rehabilitate the homes of their neighbors. Realizing the potential impact of this work, the group formed Christmas in April, with the intent of performing repair and rehabilitation work in their community every April. News of the group’s good work spread slowly, but eventually achieved national recognition. The mission spread beyond the idea of providing service once a year in April to bringing together partners from all walks of life to help our neighbors year-round. We opened the national office in 1988 and became Rebuilding Together.

In 1980, a young woman climbed onto a small boat with her husband and 30 strangers. Thanh was five months pregnant. She didn't know where they were going or if they would ever see Vietnam again.

Years later, after starting over in the United States, she and her husband finally had a home of their own in San Jose. That home became the place where they raised their sons, celebrated holidays and welcomed four grandchildren. After her husband’s passing, Thanh’s home became a place to hold on to memories.

Thanks to critical repairs completed by Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley, she can continue to do just that. 💚🔨 https://rebuildingtogether.org/blog/home-she-built-after-starting-over

Today is a big win for housing in America.

We're celebrating the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act becoming law—a bipartisan achievement that recognizes safe, stable, and affordable housing as the foundation for stronger families and communities.

This legislation will help safeguard existing homes and support older adults, veterans, families, and people with disabilities who want to remain safely in the homes they love.

Thank you to the bipartisan leaders who came together to make this possible. We look forward to working with our affiliates, partners, and policymakers to help turn this important legislation into lasting impact for communities across the country.

Together, we're building a future where everyone can live in a safe home and a thriving community.

More than 175 volunteers spent the day painting and landscaping eight homes, giving the neighborhood a fresh new look and building on years of work alongside Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade. What stood out most wasn't just the new paint colors, but the way neighbors showed up for one another.

Residents stopped by to ask questions, learn how they could receive help and cheer on the volunteers. As Ms. Zambrana, shared after seeing her newly painted home, "I'm so happy to see my house go from that ugly green color to a sleek, modern grey. Even my neighbors are asking how they can be a part of it." 🔨💚

Just weeks after the September 11 attacks, Samantha enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve her country. Years later, after facing challenges that eventually led to homelessness, she rebuilt her life with the same determination that defined her military service.

Today, Samantha is a certified peer specialist helping fellow veterans navigate mental health and addiction, the founder of a nonprofit supporting women veterans and the primary caregiver for her multigenerational family.

When critical repairs threatened the safety of her home, Rebuilding Together Atlanta stepped in to make it safer and healthier, ensuring Samantha can continue caring for her loved ones and giving back to her community. 💚https://rebuildingtogether.org/blog/veteran-proud-home-again-after-repairs-rebuilding-together-and-lockheed-martin

A safe and affordable home creates the foundation for health, stability and opportunity. Rebuilding Together applauds the bipartisan passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, an important step toward addressing housing challenges facing communities across the country.

Every day, we see the impact housing instability has on older adults, veterans, families and individuals with disabilities. Addressing these challenges requires practical, people-centered solutions that strengthen neighborhoods and support long-term stability. We respectfully urge President Trump to sign this legislation into law and help move forward investments that support stronger neighborhoods and greater housing stability for millions of Americans. https://rebuildingtogether.org/blog/statement-rebuilding-together-president-ceo-and-national-board-chair-bipartisan-passage-21st

Home maintenance can become harder over time, but no one should have to navigate that alone.

Recently, volunteers worked alongside Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada to support two neighboring households through exterior repairs, cleanup and a community mural. The result wasn’t just a refreshed space. It was helping make home feel easier to care for. 💚🏡 https://rebuildingtogether.org/blog/neighborhood-and-community-united

This , we’re celebrating Gwendolyn, a single mother, homeowner and U.S. Navy veteran whose joy is contagious.

Recently, she faced a serious health challenge, which meant essential home repairs had to be put on the back burner. “As a homeowner, you look around the house… some things need to be done, but the means might not be there all the time,” said Gwendolyn.

Through our partnership with Lockheed Martin, employees in the Huntsville, Alabama area volunteered with Rebuilding Together to make improvements to Gwendolyn’s home at no cost to her. She credits the project for helping her rebuild her mindset on how she sees her home and others. 💚 🏡 https://youtu.be/5P2dAqyDIFM
