❌ Republican block border deal and impeach Mayorkas for a political stunt
Watch my recap ⬇
Rep. Thompson Highlights IRS Improvements
The funding for the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act is helping the IRS go after rich tax cheats and improve taxpayer services for hard-working Americans.
My colleagues on the other side of the aisle continue to try to slash IRS funding. All that would do is increase our debt and favor rich tax cheats. That’s just wrong. Watch my remarks in today’s Ways and Means Committee hearing with IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel ⬇

✅ Met with constituents from all parts of our district
Take a look ⬇
Fire survivors have been waiting for tax relief, and today, we have an opportunity to move this relief forward.

2024.01.30_Border Battle Video for Caucus_Subtitled.mp4
There is a bipartisan border security bill that would help secure our border.
I think it’s wrong that some on the other side of the aisle want to defeat this negotiation so they can use border security as campaign fodder.
January 19 Weekly Wrap from Washington

✅ Passed fire survivor tax relief out of Ways and Means
❌ Avoided a government shutdown
🤝 National security negotiations continue to address crisis at the border
Weekly Wrap January 12
Back by popular demand, my weekly wrap! Check out what I’ve been up to in Washington this week.
HAPPENING NOW: The Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and House Democratic Leadership are announcing our next discharge petition to force a vote on gun violence. Tune in as we talk about the impact of large capacity magazines:
Rep. Thompson Calls for Universal Background Checks
Gun violence is the leading cause of death for American children, yet House Republicans are wasting valuable floor time debating chocolate milk. Background checks are supported by 90 percent of the American people, including the majority of Republicans and NRA members.
Today, I urged my colleagues to bring my bill, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, to the House floor for a vote to help save lives and keep firearms out of the hands of people who are a danger to themselves or others. Watch ⬇
Congressman Drew Ferguson and I are excited for this weekend’s SEC Championship game between Georgia and Alabama. Georgia Tight End and Napa High School alumni Brock Bowers will be on the field to take on Alabama tomorrow!
Brock is a terrific player, and I know he will represent us well this weekend. #GoDawgs
GOP push towards a shutdown
We are nine days away from a shutdown of the federal government. The Republican Leadership is unable to pass the funding bills we need to keep the government open. This is in large part because of a handful of extreme members of their party.
A shutdown would have harmful consequences for the American people:
✅ Devastate our economy
✅ Harm small businesses
✅ Threaten Social Security
✅ Stop paying members of our military
Clearly a change in the Speakership didn’t change their problem when it comes to responsibly governing for the American people.
🚨 My bill with Rep. Doug LaMalfa to make PG&E Fire Victims Trust settlements nontaxable just passed out of the Ways and Means Committee! I spoke in committee on this bill to lay out just how important this relief is.
Now onto the House floor. We’re closer to getting this vital relief signed into law.
Mental Health Research Accelerator Act Press Conference
Today, I held a press conference with Representative Mike Kelly, Congressman John Garamendi, and brain health leaders to announce the introduction of the Mental Health Research Accelerator Act.
Investing in mental health research is essential to the health and longevity of our country, and I am proud to introduce this bill.
HAPPENING NOW: The Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, House Leadership, and Rep. Rosa DeLauro are holding a press conference to announce the next discharge petition, Ethan’s Law.
Safe gun storage saves lives, and House Democrats don’t control the agenda but have a clear plan to send Ethan’s Law to President Biden’s desk. Tune in:
Safe gun storage helps to save lives and prevent tragic accidents, and gun owners have a responsibility to properly secure their firearms.
I held a press conference in Dixon with Dixon PD Chief Robert Thompson about how safe storage keeps kids safe, helps law enforcement keep weapons off the streets, and how we can make gun safes more affordable. Listen ⬇
HAPPENING NOW: I’m holding a a press conference at the Tractor Supply Company in Dixon to discuss safe gun storage.
HAPPENING NOW: I’m holding a town hall on the historic PACT Act with representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Listen in to hear about PACT Act benefits and why it is so important to apply by August 9!
HAPPENING NOW: Tune in as I hold a town hall with veterans and their families to discuss the historic expansion of benefits in the PACT Act.
A fair tax code is crucial for American workers and businesses. Large corporations need to pay their fair share and stop shifting profits overseas to avoid paying taxes – which is why the Biden Administration is negotiating an international tax agreement with the OECD. Abandoning those negotiations would be a travesty for American workers – a point I made in today’s Ways and Means hearing.
