I've held the hands of patients who died from conditions that should have been caught early, simply because of their zip code or income. That is not the health care system America should have.

That is why I'm helping lead the reintroduction of the Health Equity and Accountability Act, legislation to strengthen health care access, expand our health care workforce, and invest in maternal and mental health.

I'm proud to lead the reintroduction of this legislation, and I am committed to fighting until it becomes law.

As an emergency medicine physician, I've seen firsthand how vaccines save lives and prevent diseases that once devastated our communities. Immunizations are one of the simplest and most effective tools we have to protect our families, our schools, and our communities from preventable illness.

After hearing directly from UPS drivers about working in 115° weather in El Centro without air conditioning, I worked with Teamsters Local 542 and the community to advocate for UPS leadership to deliver trucks with AC and cooling infrastructure. I was pleased to visit the El Centro UPS Depot and confirm the delivery of 11 new air-conditioned delivery vehicles, along with swamp coolers and fans. More is needed.

Protecting workers from extreme heat is a health and safety issue, and I’ll continue fighting to ensure every delivery worker, not just UPS, has safe working conditions.

During the tour, he met with Teamsters Local 542 leaders and UPS employees as well as recognized the installation of new air conditioning units for delivery workers.

I visited the UPS Depot in El Centro to meet with Teamsters Local 542 leadership and the workers who keep our packages moving every day. Working people should never have to choose their paycheck over their safety, especially during extreme heat, and I’m excited to see the improvements that have been installed. I applaud Teamsters Local 542 and UPS workers for advocating for improved working conditions, and I thank UPS leadership for taking the necessary steps to strengthen workplace health and safety.

I’ll continue my fight to ensure that every worker has safe conditions on the job.

An extreme heat warning has been issued for our district, Thursday, July 23rd through Sunday, July 26th. There is also an Energy Conservation Alert for the area beginning Thursday, July 23rd at 7AM to Monday, July 27th at 9AM. During that time, the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) asks us to reduce electricity use from 4-9PM on these days. Please make sure to look at your respective utility company’s recommendations and guidance.

Tips to stay safe:
1) Take breaks in the shade or A/C
2) Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
3) Limit strenuous outdoor activities
4) Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle

If you or a loved one feels dizzy, confused, or nauseous, or stops sweating in the heat, call 911 right away. Acting fast can save a life.

On top of cutting nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid funds nationwide, Trump is targeting California and withholding $1 billion from our state for his petty political vendetta. This is outrageous. I will fight tooth and nail to protect Californians from Trump’s attacks on their healthcare. This will be challenged in court.

The administration accused California and Minnesota of fraudulent activity in their public health insurance programs.
