🌎🌿 What’s Happening in Ecology? 🐾🔬
Our Ecology students have been busy exploring what it means to live on Earth and how living
things interact with the world around them!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been learning about:
🌍 Biomes – We explored the world’s major terrestrial and aquatic biomes, including deserts, rainforests, taiga, grasslands, savannas, tundra, and more. Students used maps and the HHMI BiomeViewer to investigate how climate influences where different biomes are found.
🌱 Ecosystems – We dug into the components of ecosystems and examined how living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) factors work together.
🏡 Habitats & Microhabitats – Students took ecology outside the classroom to investigate habitats and examine the tiny microhabitats where organisms live!
🐺 Ecological Niches – We are now exploring the idea of an organism’s ecological niche—what role it plays in its ecosystem, how it uses resources, and how its environment influences its survival.
🔬 The Nature of Science – Along the way, students have also been thinking like scientists by discussing scientific theories, making observations, analyzing data, and investigating questions
about the natural world.
🎥 We’ve also used videos from Crash Course, Bozeman Science, HHMI, and Netflix’s Our Planet to help bring these concepts to life.
The goal of Ecology isn't just to memorize vocabulary—it’s to think like an ecologist, ask questions, investigate the world around us, and understand the connections between organisms and their environment. 🌎💚
