MATSU Food Bank The MatSu Food Bank leads the effort to eliminate hunger and build lasting food security in the MatSu Valley by providing reliable access to nutritious food.

The Food Pantry of Wasilla was founded in 1989 as a ministry of Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church in Wasilla to provide emergency food to people in our community. In 1992, we became a member of the Valley Christian Conference and organized under the guidance of a board of directors. On March 24, 1994 we became registered as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. In October 2005 the Food Pantry of Wasill

a expanded to include The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in its distribution. As a result, there are now food distributions we handle:

A community based donation program
The federal TEFAP program, a USDA program

In 2013, we became the Mat-Su Food Bank, the only valley-wide food bank feeding families and children, and we are now able to also help supply smaller pantries. Additionally we are home for the Mat-Su Food4Kids program. The Mat-Su Food4Kids program has been feeding hungry children right here in the MatSu since 2010. Our goal is to make sure no child goes hungry!

As the Alaska State Fair celebrates its last day today, we want to thank our community - from near & far, for their absolute generosity.

We collected a total of 7,361lbs of shelf stable, non perishable goods on our 3 days there.

This is an enormous boost for our stock & for the darker, colder months ahead.

We cannot tell you the gratitude we send you all - from the fairgrounds for having us, to all of you who gave what you were able - what you’ve contributed to is crucial 🚨

You are, quite simply, the best, thank you so very, very much…

LouAnne, the Director of the Upper Susitna Food Pantry & Marty, team member extraordinaire, came by to pick up some produce & other items & brought us 496lbs of exactly what we needed!🤲🏼

James, from Kellogg Campus at APU & his Mom paid us a visit on Thursday - now we know where he gets that beautiful smile from! 🤗

James did double duty - he donated on behalf of the Alaska Tilth & the LFPA, both programs procuring their produce, meat, fish & artisan products from the Matanuska Community Farmers Market in Palmer.

And oh my goodness, it was a gorgeous spread of produce, bread, meat, fish & artisan items.

Our clients were treated to fresh, local & nutritious:
Cod, chickens, cookies, bread, mixed greens, parsley, sage, broccoli, celery, chard, dill, kale, kohlrabi, cabbage, fennel, savoy cabbage, bok choy, head lettuce, beets, radishes, onions, & microgreens.

The AMAZING & revered producers who gave sooooo much this week are:

- Delaney’s Sourdough
- Healing Acre Farm
- Jenson’s Wild Alaska
- Raven Creek Farm
- The Sassy Marigolds

Clients, please notice that all these locally grown products are labeled in our fridge & freezer by producer so that you know where your gifts are coming from.

2,857lbs of assorted beverages, including Power Ade - this is
beyond generous.

They don’t last long - the drinks you regularly donate to our clients do leave the shelves quickly. When on a budget, they’re not the first on the shopping list.

First thing this morning, we checked the donation bin outside per usual & there was a truly breathtaking gift there. The thing is, we don’t know who to thank!

Okay, so the gorgeous cherry tomatoes were from Nugen's Ranch, that’s the only clue we have! 🕵️‍♀️
