Heads up, sk8ers! Waxhaw Skate Park (WXW SK8) is temporarily closing for a major crack repair project June 18 to June 26.

Here's what you need to know:

CLOSED during construction:
• Waxhaw Skate Park
• Skate park parking lot (Caldwell St side)
• Sidewalks into the skate park site
STILL OPEN:
• DG Barnes Park & restrooms (8 a.m.–8 p.m.)
• Pump track at Downtown Park (8 a.m.–8 p.m.)
• Parking via W.S. Main St / Hwy 75 entrance
• Sidewalk on S. Church St

Workers from contractor Durafy will be repairing over 1,500 linear feet of cracks across the park surface — filling every crack with a high-strength polyurea seal to make the park safer and more rideable.

We appreciate your patience as we invest in this space for our community!

Whether your interests are in planning, historic preservation, parks, public art, or community leadership, there’s a place to contribute your time, talent, and perspective.

Today we're highlighting the ABC and Planning Board/Board of Adjustment.

🎯 ABC Board - 2 Seats Open
• Oversees responsible liquor sales
• Sets goals & objectives for the ABC store
• Meets 4th Monday of the month at the Waxhaw ABC Store
• Must be a Waxhaw resident

🏡 Planning Board / Board of Adjustment - 3 Seats + 1 Alternate Open
• Reviews rezoning & development plans
• Guides long-range planning
• Hears variances & appeals
• Meets 3rd Tuesday of the month at Town Hall
• Must be a Town resident

We're looking for volunteers to fill several key roles on parade day:

✅ Barricade monitors (18+)
✅ Float line-up leads (18+)
✅ Float line-up assistants (18+)
✅ Parking assistants (18+)
✅ Clean-up crew (high school age and older)
✅ Crowd control (high school age and older)

🚧 Downtown Water Project Update 6-11-2026
💧 Union County Water has informed us that crews will be working at the intersection of McDonald and Church Streets on Thursday, June 11, from 8 a.m. until the work is complete.

Several properties in the area of W. North Main, McDonald, Price, and Church Streets will experience water service disruptions while the work is being performed.

Road closures will occur, and detour signage will be posted. Please slow down when traveling through construction zones.

Welcome, Kristen Birmingham, our new Planning Tech! Kristen hails from Kansas and holds a master's degree from UNC Charlotte.

🏆 Program Manager Justine Haynes with the Parks and Recreation Department was recognized with her 5 year service award. She says she looks forward to many more years of service!

🏆 Officer Matthew Weinstein with the Waxhaw Police Department was recognized with his 5 year service award.

🎉 Congratulations to four outstanding staff members from Waxhaw Elementary School who are retiring together in 2026 after decades of dedicated service to the Waxhaw community!

Collectively, these women have devoted more than a century of service to the students and families of Waxhaw through their work in the school cafeteria, where they played an important role in the daily lives of countless children.

Jeanette Woolford – Hired in 1993 (33 years of service)
Julie Starling – Hired in 1995 (31 years of service)
Susie Bartniski – Hired in 1999 (27 years of service)
Ana Rangel – Hired in 2005 (21 years of service)

Their commitment, consistency, kindness, and care have left a lasting impact on generations of students and families within the community.

They were also honored with a Proclamation recognizing their outstanding contributions and dedicated service to the students, families, and community of Waxhaw. They wanted their principal Jamie Hunt and SRO Vic Montalvo be included in the picture! 😎

Join us for Waxhaw’s 4th annual Juneteenth Celebration in the Downtown Park (301 Givens St) on Friday, June 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.! All are welcome to celebrate!

There will be food trucks, live music and entertainment, family-friendly activities and more! This event will be focused on education through dance, music, and food!
