Fire calls can happen anytime day or night. Some are longer than others. Sometimes they happen over lunch or dinner. Like the call that happened today in the late afternoon. Our brothers and sisters are still on scene helping our neighbors with a call. We want to say Thank You to Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Hasemann family for drinks and cookies for bringing us food so when our firefighters return home they will have something to eat.

🦟 West Nile virus has been detected in Wayne County.

Our most recent mosquito samples identified the first West Nile virus positive pools of the 2026 season.

While the positive mosquito pools were detected in Wayne County, West Nile virus is not limited by county lines. Everyone throughout our health district should take steps to protect themselves from mosquito bites. Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants when possible, reduce standing water around your home, and stop by the NNPHD office for free DEET wipes and mosquito dunks.

Please make sure you have a way to get notifications if the weather gets severe overnight.

Severe thunderstorms in western South Dakota have produced winds over 100 mph at times. Those storms will try to push through Sioux Falls and Sioux City and along the Missouri River overnight. Should these storms maintain their power, strong wind gusts will be affecting eastern Nebraska and western Iowa by sunrise.
